The book was developed in partnership with the International Books for Peace Award, which AARMENA Books received in 2025. It reflects the spirit and international mission of Books for Peace, an initiative active in 61 countries across five continents.

About the Editors

Dr. Iyad Muhsen AlDajani is the Executive and Research Director of the Academic Alliance for Reconciliation in the Middle East and North Africa (AARMENA). He coordinates the Doctoral School for Reconciliation, Conflict Transformation and Peace Studies at Friedrich Schiller University Jena and serves on the Editorial Board of Springer Nature’s journal “Humanities and Social Sciences Communications.”

His research focuses on applied phronesis, digital humanities, reconciliation, conflict transformation, peace studies, artificial intelligence, and public policy. He is also affiliated with the Chair of Systematic Theology and Ethics and the Jena Center for Reconciliation Studies. Dr. AlDajani was awarded the Albert Schweitzer Golden Medallion for Science and Arts by the Austrian Albert Schweitzer Society.

Professor Martin Leiner is a German Protestant theologian and holds the Chair of Systematic Theology and Ethics at the Faculty of Theology of Friedrich Schiller University Jena. He is the founder and director of the Jena Center for Reconciliation Studies and the founder and director of AARMENA’s Scientific Board.

From 1998 to 2002, Professor Leiner served as Assistant Professor and Professor of Systematic Theology and Hermeneutics at the University of Neuchâtel in Switzerland. From 2000 to 2002, he was President of the Institut Romand de Systématique et d’Éthique in Geneva. Since 2003, he has been a permanent member of the Board of the Ethics Centre at Friedrich Schiller University Jena.

The volume has successfully completed the publisher’s editorial review and has now entered the production process.

AARMENA Doctoral School Seminar Announcement

Today’s doctoral school seminar on International Law and Human Rights was presented by Prof. Dr. Ciaran Burke. The session was highly enlightening and provided participants with substantial and informative insights into the principles of international law and the legal foundations defining crimes against humanity.

The seminar addressed important contemporary issues related to human rights, accountability, international justice, and the legal frameworks governing violations of humanitarian law. The discussion offered valuable academic and practical perspectives for students and researchers working in reconciliation, conflict transformation, peace studies, and international governance.

We sincerely thank Prof. Dr. Ciaran Burke for his excellent presentation and valuable contribution to the AARMENA Doctoral School and its ongoing academic dialogue on peace, justice, and human dignity.

We are honoured to welcome prof. Milan KRAJNC, PhDD to our Doctoral School and Open Debate Series on Reconciliation, Conflict Transformation, and Peace Studies.

Today’s discussion addresses the profound theme of Reconciliation with Oneself and Inner Peace — an essential philosophical, psychological, and ethical dimension of reconciliation studies. The debate explores the relationship between self-reflection, inner transformation, human dignity, and the broader processes of peacebuilding and conflict transformation within societies.

We are delighted to host this important academic dialogue and highly appreciate Professor KRAJNC’s valuable contribution to advancing interdisciplinary perspectives on reconciliation, ethics, and sustainable peace.

We are pleased to announce the start of the Ph.D. Program in Reconciliation, Conflict Transformation, and Peace Studies (RCPS) at AARMENA, Friedrich Schiller University Jena.

This interdisciplinary doctoral program brings together global scholars to advance research, policy, and practice in reconciliation and peacebuilding—bridging theory with real-world impact, particularly in the MENA region and beyond.
