Hi guys!

I haven't been around for really long. The world has totally changed during this time.
But I am coming back, and not alone.
⠀
My very good friend Elena is joining me, and together we're going to create useful content for everyone who studies Russian or just interested to know what is actually going on in our country.
⠀
Elena has bachelor's degree in History, and also studied Anthropology. She knows a lot about Russian politics and activism. She volunteered in a project "Дети Петербурга" (Children of St. Petersburg) and taught children of migrants speak Russian. Elena is one of the most knowledgeable people I know. She is a poet. She is vegan.

Just to remind you, my name is Ksenia. I have bachelor's degree in Philology. I've been teaching Russian as a foreign language and English for more than three years. I have TEFL and CAE diplomas. My biggest passion is photography, so I will be the one responsible for the visual part of this account.

There is an authentic spot in Yekaterinburg – Kolyada theater

When you enter the place you will be warmly welcomed by its creator, owner and director Nikolay Kolyada, who is also a well-known dramatist. He treats all visitors like his personal guests, playfully gives away autographs, makes jokes, and tells stories about the theater and its troupe.
⠀
The hall of the theater is also a museum where you will find all sorts of objects typical for late- soviet times and 90s.
⠀
Kolyada’s plays usually show provincial people, their troubles and what is going on in their souls. There are also interpretations of classical plays directed by Kolyada. The one I visited yesterday was ‘Woe from wit’ by A.S. Griboyedov, and it was brilliant.

This time there was a group of theater directors from abroad, so there were English subtitles during the play. Probably if you ask in advance, they can have it another time too.
⠀
If you happen to visit Yekaterinburg, this is a must-see. What you will observe on the scene shows Russian realms in a dramatic way, sometimes burlesque features.
Kolyada’s plays are very modern and accurate, but unlike other theaters of this kind, the characters here are always represented with love and compassion, and this is what makes this place so unique.

TIPS FOR BEGINNERS
from my experience📝

A month ago I started studying German with a teacher. At that time I could barely read German and knew how to introduce myself, that was it.
⠀
This week I finally started actually speaking German, and the lessons have at once become much more intense. So it took me 3-4 weeks of very lazy practice to learn to express myself enough to communicate, but this stage can be reached much faster. This is how:

▫️focus on sentence building. As soon as you ‘feel’ the structure of the language you are able to speak it.
⠀
▫️f**k accuracy. what’s the point of memorizing articles in German/Italian or knowing the subtleties of Russian endings, if you can’t actually say anything?
⠀
▫️don’t get stressed. if you have a good teacher, she or he will try to speak to you in the target language as much as possible, and naturally you won’t be able to understand everything in the beginning. ask your teacher to repeat it again and speak slower. believe me, one day, to your surprise, you will be able to understand what your teacher is asking you and answer appropriately.

▫️analyze. there must be a way to memorize new words or to comprehend other kinds of information which works best for you. in my case it’s flash cards – old school, but it works!
⠀
▫️don’t be afraid to give honest feedback to you teacher. as we, teachers, work with very different people, we learn to use different approaches, and sometimes we choose a wrong one, especially when just starting working with a new student. explain where you feel like a different way could work better. your teacher will be thankful for it, because we always want our students to feel comfortable with the learning process.

▫️don’t neglect homework. when you study on your own, at your own pace, you have a chance to embrace all the new information with maximum consciousness.
⠀
And the last one, enjoy what you are doing. Not everyone has an opportunity to study a new language at the moment. But you do!
