BATTXplore

BATTXplore The real science inside your batteries - fires, fast charging, sodium vs lithium, and how to make yours last. Real simulations, real data. Is sodium the future?

BATTXplore reveals the hidden physics inside the batteries in your phone, your car, and the grid. We use real physics simulations and real published data - not myths - to answer the questions everyone has: What actually kills your battery? Why do they catch fire? Should you charge to 100%? Every number is sourced. New battery science every week.

📱 Your phone's battery percentage is basically a lie — it's a guess.

A battery has no fuel gauge inside. All it has is a voltage, and your phone reads that one number off a hidden curve to estimate how full you are. Episode 2 of The Battery, Simulated: learn to read that curve yourself, and you'll understand your battery better than your phone does — using real PyBaMM simulations.

• Why the same voltage can mean very different charge levels (the plateau problem)
• Why the reading drops the instant you use it (the sag = internal resistance)
• The beautiful reveal: your cell's voltage is a subtraction — cathode minus anode — and their difference IS the curve
• Every chemistry has its own signature: lithium's smooth slope vs sodium's shelf-and-cliff (real Chayambuka2022 sim)

Every visual is a real simulation, not a cartoon. Follow for Episode 3 — why your battery dies in the cold.

❄️ Why does your phone die at 30% the moment it gets cold?

It's not the software — it's physics. In a real simulation, dropping a battery from room temperature to -20°C makes its internal resistance almost 8× higher. That makes the voltage collapse the instant you use it, so your phone reads empty and shuts off with real charge still inside.

Keep it warm in your pocket, and NEVER fast-charge a freezing battery — that's when the cold does permanent damage.

The biggest battery myth: electrons flow through the inside. They DON'T. ⚡

Here's what really moves — shown in a real simulation. Episode 1 of The Battery, Simulated.

What's Actually Moving Inside a Battery? — The Battery, Simulated Ep. 1
⚡ What's actually moving inside a battery? (Hint: it's NOT electrons.)

Almost everyone — including plenty of textbooks — pictures a battery wrong. Not one electron ever crosses the inside. So what does?

Episode 1 of THE BATTERY, SIMULATED: we shrink down into a real simulated lithium-ion cell and watch it live — electrons take the outside wire, ions carry the charge through the electrolyte, and the two are locked so tightly that cutting the wire freezes the whole reaction instantly.

Every visual here is a real PyBaMM simulation, not a cartoon. A new series for students and the curious.
