The ERC-funded DHARMA project (The Domestication of “Hindu” Asceticism and the Religious Making of South and Southeast Asia) has over the course of seven years built a large-scale infrastructure for the production and management of visual data in the field of epigraphy. This presentation aims to offer an overview of the visual data management developed within the project.
To create epigraphic visual documentation, the work focused on two complementary approaches: direct documentation of inscriptions in the field through dedicated fieldwork missions, as well as the documentation of estampage collections held in various institutions. This presentation will walk through the full workflow put in place to handle this visual corpus — the result of an ongoing reflection on processes and tools developed over the years — from image capture and collection, through archiving, to online dissemination. Adeline Levivier is the visual data manager of the ERC DHARMA Project at École française d'Extrême-Orient in Paris.
