Participants may also have the opportunity to obtain a certificate of attendance, which is eligible for accreditation within the proposed MEDISS doctoral program.

Beyond the t Test: Epidemiology and Biostatistics for Doctoral Students

This coming summer semester the Institute for Global Health (in cooperation with the DKFZ) is offering the course “Epidemiology and Biostatistics for Doctoral Students” (for medical and non-medical students).

The course consists of personal coaching for participants’ individual research projects and thematic sessions on a range of methods for data analysis of clinical and epidemiological studies. The course is designed as a supplementary lecture and seminar series during or before the dissertation. The course comprises of an initial one-and-a-half day overview session with individual coaching, plus a range of thematic afternoon sessions over the course of the semester (details below).

Basic knowledge of epidemiology and biostatistics is required and should be acquired prior to the course (suggestions for suitable free online courses available upon request; medical students: successful completion of Q1 module).

Dear Colleagues and Alumni,

Join our transformative DAAD-sponsored proposal writing workshop, "Empowering Global Health Alumni to Address Anthropocene Challenges" organized by Dr. Andreas Deckert and Myo Chit of Heidelberg Institute of Global Health, Germany, from September 4th to 8th. We are looking forward to welcoming up to 20 participants in Heidelberg. This workshop builds upon the legacy of the late Prof. Andreas Ruppel, aiming to educate Global Health Alumni on the negative repercussions of the Anthropocene on both the environment and public health.

Objectives of the workshop are:
• Exchange knowledge on Anthropocene challenges and mitigation strategies,
• Develop project proposals and regional workshops,
• Network with experts and fellow Alumni and
• Acquire skills in proposal writing and fundraising.

Global Health Alumni who studied in Germany can apply (please send a scanned copy of your certificate of attendance or your certificate of study).

The Heidelberg Institute of Global Health is excited to open applications for the virtual course 2024 "AI-Powered Research: From Idea Generation to Literature Review" running online from June 1st to July 6th, 2024.

This course is designed to bridge the gap between traditional research tools and cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. As global health challenges become more complex, the demand for innovative research solutions increases. This course aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to harness AI in enhancing their research capabilities, from generating ideas to conducting comprehensive literature reviews.

Participants will benefit from 9 hours of online discussions spread across six weeks, on Saturdays, with the timing adjusted to accommodate participants from various time zones. An additional 4 hours per week (~24 hours total) will be dedicated to homework and group work, plus an hour of pre-course reading. Instruction will be in English.

The course is particularly suited for individuals with a bachelor’s degree in public health, global health, or medicine, or those currently pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree in a related field. Preference will be given to current Ph.D. students, especially those from or working in LMICs.

Participation is free of charge. However, participants are responsible for their internet connectivity fees, potential article printing costs, and computer usage/electricity.

• A short CV (max 1 page) emphasizing your background in Global Health.
• A motivation letter (max 100 words) expressing your interest in the course.
