Cluster of Excellence Cellular Networks at Heidelberg University Frontier Science requires frontier technology.

The cluster enhances Heidelberg’s outstanding focus on life-science with expertise from physical chemistry, biophysics, material science, engineering and advanced computation to create a powerful interdisciplinary platform well suited to sophisticated challenges. CellNetworks applies this integrative approach to achieve new and profound insight into biological networks drawn from the four focus ar

A Bioorthogonal Click Chemistry Toolbox for Targeted Synthesis of Branched and Well-Defined Protein-Protein Conjugates 01/12/2019

Looking for some Sunday reading? Check out this recent pre-print! With Mathis Baalmann as lead author and contributions from CellNetworks member Richard Wombacher, it aims to provide the community with a powerful toolbox for making protein-protein conjugates using bioorthogonal chemistry.

A Bioorthogonal Click Chemistry Toolbox for Targeted Synthesis of Branched and Well-Defined Protein-Protein Conjugates A highly efficient technology for protein functionalization with commonly used bioorthogonal motifs for Diels-Alder cycloaddition with inverse electron demand (DAinv). With the aim of precisely generating branched protein chimeras, we systematically assessed the reactivity, stability and side produc...

DFG, German Research Foundation - Review Board Election 2019 28/11/2019

The preliminary results of the DFG Review Board Election 2019 have been published! Among this year's members are six CellNetworks scientists! We'd like to congratulate: Britta Brügger, Frank Lyko, Michael Boutros, Rüdiger Hell, Karin Schumacher and Ulrich Schwarz!

"The election of review board members is an important element in the system of scientific self-governance with regard to the distribution of grants through the DFG."

Intramembrane protease RHBDL4 induces ER-associated degradation of the oligosaccharyltransferase complex 28/11/2019

Check out this pre-print! With Julia Knopf as lead author and contributions from CellNetworks member Marius Lemberg, it describes the group's use of a catalytic-inactive mutant and proteomics to find substrates for the ERAD rhomboid protease.

Comments are highly appreciated (on the webpage)!

Intramembrane protease RHBDL4 induces ER-associated degradation of the oligosaccharyltransferase complex The Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)-resident intramembrane rhomboid protease RHBDL4 generates metastable protein fragments and together with the ER-associated degradation (ERAD) machinery provides a clearance mechanism for aberrant and surplus proteins. However, the endogenous substrate spectrum and with...

Verkehrskonzepte der Büros auf dem Prüfstand: Nächste öffentliche Veranstaltung am 28. November 22/11/2019

The next public event in the development project, "Masterplanverfahren Im Neuenheimer Feld / Neckarbogen," will take place on Thursday 28th November 2019 at 6pm.

In the first half of 2019, the four planning offices presented their traffic concepts for the project. After putting their feasibility to the test, an external reviewer will now present its findings, as well as the traffic flows each approach will most likely produce, to the public.

All interested parties are invited to intend. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and submit comments following the presentation. For more information, check out the link below!

Calling PhD students and postdocs!

Science communication is an increasingly important issue in academia. So why not check out the following opportunity for young scientists!

Dagmar Röhrlich, a renowned science journalist, will be the next Springer Nature Visiting Professor for this topic. During her stays at the Marsilius Kolleg, she will offer several workshops on practical or more theoretical aspects of science communication – some in English and some in German.

A joint initiative of the Veranstaltungsforum of the Holtzbrinck Publishing Group, the Klaus Tschira Foundation (KTS), and Universität Heidelberg, workshop themes this year will include: how to become a good interview partner, how good press conferences work and scientific communication for environmental scientists, among others.

Check out the programme and feel free to register for any of the seminars via email, or send in any questions you might have using the link below!

Springer Nature Visiting Professorship - Uni Heidelberg The visiting professorship for scientific communication, established in the winter term 2018/2019, is a joint initiative of the Veranstaltungsforum of the Holtzbrinck Publishing Group, the Klaus Tschira Foundation (KTS) and Ruperto Carola.

WUSCHEL acts as an auxin response rheostat to maintain apical stem cells in Arabidopsis 19/11/2019

Check out this recently published paper on the interaction of the stem cell inducer WUSCHEL with the differentiation hormone auxin, with contributions from CellNetworks members Thomas Greb and Jan Lohmann. Lead author: Yanfei Ma.

WUSCHEL acts as an auxin response rheostat to maintain apical stem cells in Arabidopsis Spatial control of auxin signaling maintains a balance between stem-cell self-renewal and differentiation at the plant shoot apex. Here Ma et al. show that rheostatic control of auxin response by the WUSCHEL transcription factor maintains stem cells by conferring resistance to auxin mediated di...
