It’s been a while since we’ve had any political intrigue here in our series. And since we’re about to head into fall—that cozy slash horror season—we definitely need to explore other genres in our weekly series. This post is packed with intrigue and thrills, and it’s even historical fiction! Well, at least the original version is, sorta.

As we all know, summer is the time to relax, soak up the sun, and—most importantly—live life to the fullest. With this laid-back attitude, we’re kicking off the weekend and our with a movie that centers on one of the world’s most “chill” groups: surfers. And it’s the perfect month for this movie, since it’s the 35th anniversary of the original, so we really have something to celebrate here. Enjoy!

For today’s , we’re heading to the Midwest: One of our research assitants, Tina, has just started her research trip in Wisconsin, so our weekly series has followed her there as well. (By the way, she’s also the one in charge of this series—so it’s a great excuse to get in the mood for Wisconsin!) Be sure to check our Instagram account regularly, because that’s where she’ll be posting updates on her travels.
While Wisconsin is probably best known for its cheese, dairy products, and the ever-present cows, there’s actually a remake set here that’s a little out of the ordinary.

On this , we’re presenting a slightly less classic entry for our weekly series—well, strictly speaking, it is a classic, but not in the usual sense of our series. With the theatrical release of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey last week, Homer’s epic was introduced to many moviegoers anew, though of course this saga has been told countless times before. And even if you can’t really call this a remake in the strictest sense, we still thought it was worth mentioning that there are actually other versions that tell this story in a slightly different way. And today we’re introducing you to one of them!

For a sad reason, this week’s is all about Sam Neill, whom you’ll most likely know as Dr Alan Grant from the Jurassic Park series. But he was much more versatile than that: as a reluctant resistance fighter, as an insurance investigator driven to madness, as a father figure to a neglected foster child, and much more than that. Today we’re focusing on one of his lesser-known roles, but as it’s a Neill film, you know you’re in for a treat.

Hiya, mates! Hollywood Memories is currently on a trip to Exeter in the UK (just check out our latest posts), so we thought today’s could tag along. Instead of an American remake of a foreign film, today we’ve got a British one. Cheers!

Day 3 of ! And it was a very special day, as we presented our findings from our case studies: memories of video stores in the U.S., horror audiences in Mexico, and communities united by their love of fantasy in China. We’d like to thank everyone who braved the heat and came to our room (which was, fittingly, looking a bit like a movie studio).
Another highlight was the conference dinner at the beautiful Exe (Fun fact: Exeter got its name from this river). No pictures for this one—but it was a great evening full of food, chats, and lovely people!

Day 1 of this year's conference in Exeter, UK! After short flights (and one long layover) we've arrived at our destination, did some light sightseeing, scored quite okay in a pub quiz, and had, of course, some pints (not pictured).
Stay tuned for the next days of conference-ing!

There are many movies centered on the 4th of July, so you have a great range of pictures to chose from. Something for musical lovers? Hamilton (2020). A classic? Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939). Want more action? Top Gun (1986). How about something for horror lovers, or the whole family? Jaws (1975), or The Sandlot (1993). The world is your oyster, as they say.
For this , we’ve got something a little less obvious on offer, but you’ll get your share of fireworks too—we promise.
