In this month’s Webinar, former Editor-in-Chief of the Jakarta Post Endy Bayuni talked to the 2013/14 Fellows about reporting religion. Speaking from Indonesia via Intajour’s e-learning platform, Bayuni urged the Fellows to “apply the gold standard of good journalism in reporting religion." He explained that as societies become more multifaith and multicultural, it had become inevitable for journalist to report on religion, most particularly on tensions and conflicts between religious communities. “The challenge for any journalist in dealing with religion is that we have difficulties in detaching ourselves from our own faith, and this affects the way we see and report about religion”, he said. However, he stressed that this was no excuse for not doing a better job in reporting religion. Guest speaker Endy Bayuni served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Jakarta Post from 2004-2010. He writes regular columns about Indonesian politics, the evolving political cultures, Islam, democracy, foreign affairs, economic development, and the changing media landscape. The Jakarta Post is Indonesia's biggest English language newspaper.
