Online After Work Business English

One of the things I have noticed about my clients since most of them started working from a home office at the outbreak of Covid, is that they are more relaxed. In many cases they appear to be under less time pressure than when they were permanently in the office. Of course, commuting time is zilch and starting and finishing times can be more flexible depending on their job.

At the request of several of my clients to try a new English teashop in Hamburg Altona to see how authentic it was, I recently went along one afternoon and had a “cream tea”. Finally after a lot of good comments from my clients, I tried Eaton Place and had scones with clotted cream and jam - an English specialty that is famous in Cornwall.
I am pleased to say the scones were excellent and the Earl Grey Tea was also good.

Face Masks - a new “fashion” we have to get used to😷

At least this lovely multi-coloured array of face masks (handmade by my assistant’s teenage daughter,
Katie) is much nicer than the medical ones. And they are reversible. I have noticed prices increase from the
original EUR 5 - 7, to as much as EUR 17 in one local shop! Inevitable, I suppose. People will always try to make money out of these things!

Jeff’s American Cheescakes
On Saturday with HH in virtual shutdown, I ventured to my local Wochenmarkt in Gross Flottbek just to see some people and have a nose around. A fairly new and exciting addition to the market is Jeff’s American Cheesecake. He has an interesting story. When he was a teenager (too young to drink alcohol) and a hopeful musician in New York City in the 70”s, he and a friend would order a glass of milk and a piece of cheesecake whilst listening to jazz in various NYC clubs. Coronavirus v language training:
Due to the Coronavirus, and on the instruction of the Hamburg government, Pledger Business English Training
(and all language training organisations) is currently not permitted to go into companies to train Business English
until the end of April. Therefore I am preparing to offer my clients on-line business English training during this time
and can then continue to train people 1-1 or in small groups, whether they are in the office or doing home office.
