🌏 How does knowledge produced in academia find its way into the decisions of policymakers? Our recent conference brought together research and policy perspectives on area expertise and strategic global partnerships amid multipolarity.

Carlos Mauricio Nupia, Visiting Researcher at Justus Liebig University Giessen, and Latin America expert, visited the conference and reflects on how academic knowledge is transferred to policy decisions and the variety of ways in which people from government, NGOs, and academia make use of it.

🌎 From Transition to Democratic Erosion, From the South to the Global North: GIGA Expert Mariana Llanos opens the XIII Congreso Latinoamericano de Ciencia Política (ALACIP 2026) with a lecture tracing four decades of comparative political institutions across Latin America and the Global North.

💬 This year's ALACIP congress gathers academics, researchers and professionals from across the region to advance political science studies on Latin America and the Caribbean in Buenos Aires.

📅 Beyond the opening lecture, Llanos also joins two further panels during the congress: on editorial challenges for political science journals on Latin America, and on presidentialism and institutional trajectories in Latin America.

The latest Impact Factors from Clarivate highlight the high level of international visibility of the GIGA Journal Family. The Journal of Current Chinese Affairs has enjoyed particular success: after being included in the ESCI, the journal received its first Impact Factor in 2025 and entered the rankings at an impressive position straight away.

The Africa Spectrum, the Journal of Politics in Latin America, and the Journal of Current Southeast Asian Affairs also performed strongly, demonstrating the continued global reach and relevance of research published across the GIGA Journal Family.
