UPCOMING SYMPOSIUM FOR PHD STUDENTS- TLEMCEN
Have a look at the program of the doctoral symposium “Islamic History and Archaeology” organized by Prof Rezki Chergui at the department of Archeology, Abou Bekr al-Belkaid-Tlemcen University. The RomanIslam team is looking forward to get to know the students and is grateful for this wonderful opportunity and scholarly exchange.
Besides some impressions from a trip to the Beni Add Ain Fezza Caves. One of the most important natural museums, stretching over 700 meters and reaching a depth of 57 meters. Its volcanic walls hold many secrets, with limestone concretions forming stalactites and stalagmites of the most varied and beautiful shapes.
We took an impressive trip through the cave and enjoyed the view of the beautiful mountains, stopping by at the (former) El Ourit Waterfalls.

💛💚💙 Tlemcen 💙💛💚
After getting some work done from probably one of, if not the most beautiful offices in the world, Prof. Dr. Rezki Chergui (Abou Bekr al-Belkaid-Tlemcen University) picked us up to meet his colleagues at the faculty.
On the way, we stop at al-Mansourah, a 14th century site, probably one of the earliest mosquée of this size in Algeria, built by the Merinides.
At the university we enjoyed the hospitality of the Abou Bekr al-Belkaid-Tlemcen University.
In the early evening we visited the mosque of
Shuʿaib Abū Madyan (Sidi Boumediène). The complex comprises besides the mosque, also a madrasa and a mausoleum dedicated to this influential Sufi saint Abū Madyan.
For sunset we were taken to Jabal Lalla Setti where in addition to the sunset, we enjoyed an impressive view over Tlemcen and its surroundings.
