A look at the world map and the international history of HFBK Hamburg: TIAA – The International Alumni Archive is a digital platform that uncovers the stories and career paths of HFBK Hamburg’s international alumni.

In this short interview, Astrid Mania (Prof of Art Criticism and Modern Art History at HFBK) shares how the idea for this growing archive came to life and why preserving these stories matters. The archive explores the impact international students have had on the university and how their time at HFBK and in Hamburg has shaped their personal and professional journeys.

Featuring alumni portraits, interviews, biographies and essays, TIAA invites you to discover these global connections through an interactive world map, with more data and insights to come.

Things are heating up as we prepare for this year‘s Annual Exhibition 🔥

From February 13 to 15, 2026 (daily from 2-8 p.m.), our students will present a variety of artistic works they have created over the past year at Lerchenfeld 2, 2a and Finkenau 42. In addition, students from the California Institute of the Arts, Los Angeles, Goldsmiths, University of London, and the HFBK Hamburg will exhibit at ICAT.

The opening of the Annual Exhibition is on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. The show can be viewed until 10 p.m. on the opening night. After that, admission is only possible for HFBK family and friends, for guests when accompanied by members of the university.

Come by and visit the Open Studios of our Art School Alliance program on December 11-14 at Karolinenstraße 2a.

During the exhibition, works by all artists currently participating in the program will be on display in the shared studio house.

About the visual by ASA students Chimo Saido and Japhet Onojie : Our design acts as a frame into the countries represented at the current ASA program. The phrase ‘ASA Open Studios’ is rewritten in a selection of non-Latin scripts to reflect cultural diversity. The intertwining, morphing trees woven through stylized typography is symbolic to the ASA residence and how it fosters collaboration, growth, and cultural awareness.

As part of the symposium Writing in Future, the corresponding exhibition will open on December 4 at 6 p.m. at ICAT.

In two weeks, the symposium 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 will take place, dedicated to different ways of dealing with texts and writing practices in the art context. In the exchange between artists and authors, transitions and interferences in the writing and staging of a text become visible. In addition to the relationship between visual art and literature, five panel discussions will focus on other relationships, such as institutional, technological, and poet(ological) ones, all of which have implications for the possible futures of writing.

The symposium is open to the public, free of charge, and no registration is required.
