21st of May: World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development

The date was proclaimed by the ONU General Assembly in 2002, a year after the approval of the UNESCO Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity. This declaration recognises cultural diversity not only as a factor in the sustainable development of society, but as well as a fundamental human right. Bridging the gap between cultures is urgent and necessary for peace, stability and development.

Protecting the diversity of cultural expression is more important than ever, considering the impact the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the cultural sector, with cultural events cancelled, community cultural practices suspended and cultural institutions closed.

Cultural diversity is a source of inspiration, creativity and innovation, and also it plays a crucial role when it comes to building one's identity. Throughout a person’s life, but especially during early years development, to feel represented and to have adequate responses to specific cultural needs in one’s environment has an impact on how they shape their identity.

At Fojanga’s transcultural kindergarten for children and families, we take a step further to meet these goals, and therefore commit to building a better community, and a better society.

Today we started our action of collecting metal Bottle tops to make musical instruments and art for the transcultural Kindergarden FoJanga! Please get involved...... FoJanga already operates in the GAMBIA but now also Hamburg and Berlin are busy with START UP initiatives!

In Hamburg, FoJanga hopes to open its doors for the first children on 1.7.2021 in Wandsbek.
