Few people know the Kartause as intimately as Wolfram Seitz-Schüle. For almost 40 years, he and his family have cared for these historic grounds, helping preserve not only a unique landscape, but also the biodiversity, history, and sense of community that make this place so special.

As RBC’s Estate Manager, Wolfram sees the campus as much more than beautiful surroundings. It is a living ecosystem, part of an important ecological corridor, and a place where young people from around the world come together to learn, grow, and shape a more peaceful future. 🌍

What motivates him most?

Some places are more than just buildings. They carry the stories of everyone who has ever passed through them.

When Inas Kali arrived at UWC Robert Bosch College in 2021, she brought with her a story of extraordinary courage.

Growing up in a small Yazidi village in northern Iraq, Inas survived the 2014 genocide committed by ISIS, spent years living in displacement camps, and refused to let her circumstances define her future. Education became her path forward.

After graduating from UWC Robert Bosch College in 2023, Inas continued her journey at the The College of Idaho, where she is now a senior studying business, marketing, and theatre.
In a deeply personal opinion piece for the Idaho Statesman, she reflects on the experiences that shaped her—and on her unwavering belief that opportunity can change lives.

Her story is a powerful reminder of why access to education matters and of what becomes possible when young people are given the chance to learn, lead, and dream beyond the limits others place on them.

🌱 Planning a new year of Service Learning!

While many of our students are enjoying their summer break, our Service Learning Coordinator Tina is busy behind the scenes. Throughout the summer, she’s meeting with long-standing and new community partners, building meaningful relationships, and making sure that every single student has a service placement where they can learn, contribute, and grow.

We’re excited to introduce some of the new opportunities awaiting our students this year:

🐓 La Petite Ferme – Support a school garden and care for chickens, help teach French alongside, and build practical skills with younger children.
🎮 Game Scout @ the Library – Use the positive potential of video games to support children through guided gaming sessions and media literacy activities at the Community Library.
💙💛 Wunderwerk – Volunteer in a unique second-hand charity shop that funds humanitarian projects in Ukraine while creating a welcoming space where people can meet, connect, and enjoy a cup of coffee together.
☕ Community Center Vogelhof – Help create an open neighbourhood café using rescued food, support German lessons for a refugee woman, and strengthen social participation for people who might otherwise feel isolated.
🪦 History in Your Hands – Preserve Freiburg’s cultural heritage by caring for historic graves at the main cemetery while exploring how different cultures remember, mourn, and celebrate life.

These are just a few of the many partnerships that make Service Learning at RBC so special. We are deeply grateful to all the organizations, volunteers, and community partners who open their doors to our students and make authentic learning through service possible.

Waiting for new stories. 🌿

Through this window, generations of students have looked out before heading into another day of learning, conversations, and unexpected discoveries.

While our students are enjoying a well-deserved summer break, the Kartause is already welcoming new perspectives.

This week and until the beginning of August, around 70 participants from 14 countries are taking part in the UWC Short Course „Building a Sustainable Future“ – experiencing a glimpse of UWC life while the campus quietly prepares for the year ahead.

Before long, these classrooms will fill once again as we welcome a new generation of UWC students from around the world.

Alumni Spotlight: Fainess (Class of 2017) 🌍

What happens when you stop trying to represent where you come from—and simply start being yourself?
For Fainess, that shift changed everything.

When she joined UWC Robert Bosch College from Tanzania in 2015, many conversations began with countries, cultures, and differences. But over time, those conversations became something much deeper.
„I didn’t feel like I had to represent a country. I could just represent myself.“

That realization transformed her RBC experience. Friendships became more meaningful, learning became more personal, and curiosity replaced the need to explain.

Today, Fainess is pursuing a career in women’s health research while supporting future UWC students in Tanzania as they begin journeys of their own.

Her story is a beautiful reminder that international education isn’t only about discovering new places—it’s about discovering yourself, too.
