🎉 Postdoc Appreciation Week (PAW) 2026 is coming up!

Postdoc Appreciation Week is an annual, global celebration of the contributions and achievements of postdoctoral researchers. First launched in 2009 by the National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) in the US, PAW has since grown into an international event, with institutions across Canada, Ireland, Germany, Portugal, the UK, and more recently Austria and the Netherlands taking part. Held every year in the third week of September, the week features seminars, workshops, social events, and more, all aimed at recognizing the vital role postdocs play in advancing research and innovation — and giving them a chance to connect, share experiences, and celebrate their achievements together.

🎓GRADE is proud to take part again this year, organizing two Career Talks as part of the celebration:

We kindly invite you to the 8th UCT Mainz Mini-Symposium in Translational Oncology (MiTraC) sponsored by Merck Healthcare KGaA, which will take place from 1 to 6 pm on September, 24th in the lecture hall 102 at the University Medical Center Mainz.

In the Mini-Symposium series we aim to address important areas of cancer research linked to translational oncology. The topic of this year’s symposium is “Mechanisms of Tumor evolution and progression”. The talks will cover major topics of many research groups at the UCT Mainz and our partnering institutions and clinics.

Im Rahmen der Postdoc Appreciation Week Germany 2026 findet die Online Veranstaltung “Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung und globales Lernen” statt 🌿

Im Workshop mit Dr. Johanna Lochner steht die Frage im Mittelpunkt: Wie kann Wissenschaft Menschen emotional erreichen und komplexe Themen wie Klimawandel, Nachhaltigkeit und globale Verantwortung verständlich und greifbar vermitteln?
Anhand konkreter Beispiele aus ihrer Bildungsarbeit zeigt Johanna Lochner, wie wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse so vermittelt werden können, dass sie nicht nur Wissen schaffen, sondern Menschen auch zum Nachdenken, Mitgestalten und Handeln anregen.

🧬 Rethinking Immunity and Disease in the Face of Data Gaps: Winter School for Early Career Researchers

How can immunological research better account for s*x- and gender-specific differences? And how can data, new technologies and robust study designs help close existing knowledge gaps?

The CIMD Winter School 2026 at Fraunhofer ITMP invites PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers and other early career researchers to explore these questions from 3–5 November 2026 in Frankfurt.

The three-day program will address topics including:
🔹 s*x- and gender-sensitive approaches to immunological research
🔹 differences in the diagnosis and treatment of immune-mediated diseases
🔹 the influence of culture and society on health
🔹 real-world data and robust study design
🔹 new technologies for closing knowledge gaps
🔹 accessible and understandable science communication

The Winter School combines lectures with discussions, networking and opportunities to share your own research. Participants will present their work in a poster session and give a five-minute pitch on their current research project.

🎯 This opportunity may be particularly interesting for PhD candidates and postdocs at Goethe University Frankfurt and the Rhein-Main-Universitäten working in immunology, medicine, life sciences, health research, data science or related fields.
