Die heute größte Konferenz National Model United Nations New York fand bereits ein halbes Jahr nach der Gründung der Vereinigten Nationen erstmals statt. Die Teilnehmerzahl stieg auf heute ca. 5000 und während damals nur amerikanische Studenten beteiligt waren treffen hier heute Menschen aus über 30 Nationen von mehr als 150 Universitäten zusammen. Hier vertreten die Delegationen der Universitäten in verschiedenen Komitees die Interessen eines der UN-Mitgliedsstaaten und debattieren globale Problemstellungen mit dem Ziel am Ende der Konferenz die verhandelten Resolutionen zu verabschieden. Das besondere hierbei ist, dass keine Delegationen ihr Heimatland vertritt. Viel eher müssen sich die Delegierten intensiv mit den politischen Standpunkten ihres zu vertretenen Landes auseinandersetzen und dabei neue Perspektiven annehmen. An diese große Tradition hat die Hochschulinitiative der Frankfurt School of Finance & Management 2010 angeknüpft. Mit 9 Delegierten beteiligten wir uns vor 3 Jahren zum ersten Mal an der NMUN NY als Hochschuldelegation. Seitdem hat sich unser Engagement breit entwickelt, sich die Delegationsgröße mehr als verdoppelt und die Vorbereitung auf die Konferenz professionalisiert. Dieses Jahr (2012) wurde unserer Delegation erstmals ein Award für die inhaltliche Vorbereitung sowie für unsere Filmdokumentation über die Zeit in New York verliehen. Auch in Zukunft wollen wir weiter erfolgreich an der NMUN als Hochschuldelegation teilnehmen um den Studenten die einmalige Erfahrung zu ermöglichen, auf internationalem diplomatischen Boden zu agieren.

In fact these kind of simulations date back as early as the 1920s, when they initially started as simulations of the League of Nations. Todays largest conference, the National Model United Nations New York, was first held half a year after the foundation of the United Nations. About 5000 students participate today, and while back when it started only US citizens took part, now people from over 30 nations and of more then 150 universities meet at NMUN. Every delegation of the universities represents a UN member state and takes this countries opinions in different committees, discussing global issues with the goal to vote on the negotiated resolutions at the end of the conference. No delegation represents their home country, delegates have to busy themselves with the political points of the country they represent and take on a completely new perspective. Following this great tradition, the Frankfurt School Initiative was founded in 2009. 3 years ago 9 delegates first took part in the NMUN NY as delegation of the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. Since then our commitment has evolved, the delegation size more then doubled and we professionalized the preparation for the conference. In 2012 our delegation first won an award for an outstanding position paper and for our mediateams contribution to the annual movie contest. We are looking forward to continuing this successful history of participating at the NMUN as a university delegation. We want to continue enabling students to experience the unique opportunity to act on international diplomatic grounds.
