After more than two decades at Lufthansa Technical Training Philippines, Ernesto Ferreras Jr. "Jun" is preparing for retirement - but his journey in aviation is far from over.

His path began with a scholarship that allowed him to pursue his dream of working with aircraft. Starting as an instructor at a local aviation college, he later joined Philippine Airlines, where he spent 15 years as a ground instructor training pilots. Eventually, he transitioned into maintenance training - and found his true passion.

"At first, I wasn’t sure I would make it," he says. "But that opportunity changed everything." Today, he teaches a wide range of aircraft types and systems, from Boeing 737 and 777 to Airbus A350 and A380 - including engine run-ups and troubleshooting scenarios. His favorite? "Airbus," he smiles. "The design makes it easier to explain - and easier for students to understand."
What continues to excite him is the challenge behind the systems.

"It’s not just about knowing how something works - it’s about understanding why it doesn’t work." Troubleshooting, especially during engine run-ups, allows him to challenge students with real-world scenarios and sharpen their thinking.
For Jun, teaching has always been more than delivering knowledge. It’s a two-way process. "You teach, but you also learn. Students ask questions, and that gives you new perspectives."

One moment that stayed with him was the 20-year anniversary celebration of Lufthansa Technical Training Philippines a few years ago.
"Seeing colleagues, customers, and partners from all over the world together. That’s when I felt: this is more than a company. It’s a family."
That sense of legacy continues at home: his son is now an aircraft technician.
"I hope he follows a similar path," he says.

His advice for newcomers is simple and practical:
"Take initiative. Ask questions. Be resourceful. Learning never stops - and as an instructor, you can only teach if you keep learning yourself."
Looking ahead, Jun plans to continue as a freelance instructor after retirement while also maintaining his role as a consultant for the government, supporting licensing, examinations, and quality oversight for aviation engineers.

For the future of Lufthansa Technical Training, his vision is clear: keep evolving. "Upgrade facilities, improve training materials, use more visuals. Make learning easier to understand."
Because one thing is certain: "Aviation never stops - and neither should we."

✈️ This is what lifelong learning and passion for aviation look like - at Lufthansa Technical Training, every day.

Kimberly Guiatao’s journey at Lufthansa Technical Training Philippines is a true growth story - built step by step, with courage, passion, and continuous learning.

After graduating from a technical school, she took her first steps into aviation training in 2013, when a colleague introduced her to Lufthansa Technical Training Philippines. She started as a freelance instructor - supported by the communication skills and confidence she had developed earlier in her career.
"At first, I was nervous - especially as a woman entering this field. But I was given the chance."

That chance turned into a career. Over time, she transitioned from a freelance instructor to a full-time certified instructor - a milestone that reflects both her dedication and the trust placed in her. She grew from workshop training, teaching basic mechanical skills, into specialized fields like wiring, cabin work, and aircraft components. In 2023, she moved into classroom training, teaching Human Factors, Aviation Legislation, and EASA basic modules - before becoming a certified type training instructor for the Airbus A330 (B2) and trained for B737NG.

"Lufthansa Technical Training Philippines gave me a chance - and I’m truly grateful."

What still excites her most: people.
"Every day, I meet new trainees. They learn from me - but I also learn from them."
A defining moment? The call confirming her as a certified type training instructor.

"They trusted me. That gave me confidence. I’ll never forget it."
For her, teaching is a passion: "You have to believe in yourself. Be patient. Be kind. We teach, but we also learn every day."

Her advice: "Stay open, keep learning, and trust yourself, even if it takes time."
Today, she sees Lufthansa Technical Training Philippines as more than a workplace: "It feels like a second family. Like coming home."

Looking ahead, she hopes to see continued growth, trust, and global impact - while empowering people, especially women, to show what they are capable of.
"Everyone here works hard. Everyone wants to grow."

💛 This is what growth, opportunity, and empowerment look like - at Lufthansa Technical Training, every day.

Lufthansa Technical Training Philippines (LTTP) was proudly represented by Laura Diedrich and April Zarate at the Vietnam Aero Summit 2026 (VAS 2026), held at the Equatorial Ho Chi Minh City. The two‑day conference gathered aviation professionals and experts.
This year’s summit brought together leaders from across supply chain, logistics, MRO, airport operations, and technical training, focusing on the most pressing challenges in both the Vietnamese and ASEAN aviation markets including infrastructure constraints, aircraft and parts shortages, supply‑chain disruptions, sustainability, and workforce development.

Laura Diedrich served as one of the conference speakers, presenting training strategies in Asia and how the aviation sector can effectively bridge generational and cultural gaps in aircraft maintenance training. Her session highlighted real‑world examples, including a recent regional training class, to demonstrate how instructors can better adapt to diverse learner groups.

With Vietnam’s aviation sector entering a major growth phase, supported by the highly anticipated operational launch of Long Thanh International Airport in 2026, the summit reaffirmed Vietnam’s position as a rapidly rising regional aviation hub. It underscored the industry’s collective commitment to collaboration, innovation, and capacity building across ASEAN to support sustainable long‑term growth.
