Oktober existiert das „Zentrum globaler Islam“ an der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt nicht mehr: ein Ort der Forschung und öffentlichen Diskussion, der nicht in die gängigen Raster der akademischen und politischen Debatten passte. Dort kamen liberale, säkulare und reformorientierte Musliminnen und Muslime ebenso zu Wort wie islamismuskritische Intellektuelle aus der ganzen Welt – von Seyran Ateş, Hamed Abdel-Samad, Mouhanad Khorchide, Abdel-Hakim Ourghi und Ahmad Mansour ... Wer als Muslim auf Missstände hinweist – auf Islamismus, patriarchale Strukturen, Antisemitismus oder fehlende Meinungsfreiheit –, gilt schnell als „selbsthassend“ oder „islamophob“.
Wer Menschen nur als Opfer der westlichen Geschichte denkt, nimmt ihnen jedoch die Fähigkeit zur Verantwortung, zur Kritik, zur eigenen Position. So werden muslimische Gesellschaften homogenisiert, als wären sie ein einziger Körper, der nur passiv leidet. Dass das Zentrum Globaler Islam nun verstummt, ist Folge einer intellektuellen Verengung, die Kritik auf eine Lehre vom westlichen Sündenfall reduziert. ...
Warum die Schließung des „Zentrums globaler Islam“ ein Fehler ist
Düsseldorf. In den Kulturwissenschaften, wo einst Differenzdenken gefeiert wurde, dominiert eine binäre Logik: hier der „schuldige Westen“, dort die „unsichtbar gemachten Opfer“ des Kolonialismus. Damit nehmen sie die betroffenen Menschen jedoch nicht ernst.
