ViaMUN - Viadrina Model United Nations

In der vergangenen Woche debattierten Viadrina-Studierende in einem Planspiel über die Zukunft der Länder Zentralafrikas. Im Sicherheitsrat und im Menschrechtsrat verhandelten sie in insgesamt acht Sessions zur Zukunft Zentralafrikas mit dem Ziel, eine gemeinsame Resolution zu verabschieden. Begleitend zur Simulation wurde vom Lehrstuhl für Europäische und Internationale Politik ein Seminar zur Einführung in die Arbeitsweise der Vereinten Nationen angeboten.
Begleitet wurden die Verhandlungen dieses Jahr erstmals von einem sechsköpfigen studentischen Presse-Team, das die Sitzungen verfolgte und per Twitter, Instagram und täglichem Pressespiegel kommentierte.
Seit 2005 veranstaltet die studentische Initiative ViaMUN gemeinsam mit dem Lehrstuhl von Prof. Dr. Jürgen Neyer die UN-Planspiele."

So this was ViaMUN 2019! Thank you so much to everyone for making the last weekend such an extraordinary MUN experience. We really enjoyed spending these days with all of you - be it during heated debates, interesting discussions on the region of Central Africa or at the social events in the evenings. We for sure had a blast and hope you had, too!

Our member Sebastian has just successfully attended EuroMUN 2019 in Maastricht as Vice-President of the European Parliament. He also met Martyna, our Secretary-General of the 2019 ViaMUN edition and member of the Maastricht UN association. We can't wait to welcome her in Frankfurt in June - as well as you! The next chair that we would like to introduce is Zuzanna Zmuda who will chair the Human Rights council as well:

"Hi! My name is Zuzanna Żmuda and I am a second-year student of European Law at Maastricht University. I am from Poland and that is where my MUN career started as I was attending high school. Up until now I had a chance to take part in multiple MUNs both as a Delegate and a Chair, each in different committee: from International Criminal Court and Human Rights Council to the Council of Europe and European Council (believe it or not, there is a difference ;) ) . Apart from MUNs I am a sport addict, who will take up any challenge requiring physical activity. Nevertheless, when I am not working out, you probably will not see me without a dress or skirt on and a bow in my hair!"

The next chair that we would like to introduce is Maria Kristin Trumsi who will chair the Human Rights Council:

"My name is Maria and I look forward to chair the Human Rights Council. It's my second time at ViaMUN, after chairing for the first time last year, ViaMUN 2018 became one of my favourite memories ever, so I decided to return to Frankfurt an der Oder! Currently I'm studying Korean studies and international relations at FU Berlin. As cheesy as it sounds, I enjoy nice talks over beer or coffee, cool debates, long walks and a good round of badminton. I am very excited for the challenging, but fun conference ahead of us, and I can't wait to meet you all!"

Today we would like to introduce you to Lukas Reichl, who will chair the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC):

"Dear delegates and MUN-enthusiasts,
Currently studying law in Hamburg, Germany, I am honored to serve as the chair for this year’s ViaMUN ECOSOC. My MUN-career began in Dresden, which is why I am particularly looking forward to another comparably familiar and cozy MUN experience in Frankfurt (Oder). Having a chance to engage with everyone, having room for every thought and idea to be discussed is something I learned to admire and thus am looking forward to experience at this year’s conference."

The next chair we would like to introduce is Rezwan Ahmed who will chair the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC):

"I am Rezwan Ahmed, studying M.Sc. in Environmental and Resource Management at Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU), Cottbus, Germany.
I have started MUN journey from a small city, Sylhet, Bangladesh while studying Bachelor in Civil Engineering at Leading University. MUN has always been one of my passions. I believe that it’s a great platform where my thoughts and ideas reflected through constructive criticism and discussions.
For me, life is all about introducing yourself to its numerous challenges with courage and coming up with success or lesson for the future ahead.
ViaMUN 2019 will be my first ever MUN conference in Germany. I wish all the best to the secretariat, chairs, and delegates for a successful event.
