Following the devastating earthquake that struck Colombia on August 10, Viadrina stands in solidarity with all those affected, their families, and the communities facing the difficult days ahead.
In this time of solidarity, our partner university, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (PUJ) in Cali, has shared with us an initiative to support the relief efforts coordinated by the Jesuit Province of Colombia, which is working alongside local authorities and organisations directly supporting the affected communities.
At Viadrina, we believe that university communities extend far beyond borders. In moments of crisis, solidarity, care and collective action can offer hope and meaningful support to those who need it most.

Meet Shoaziz Shoabdukarimov, a Viadrina Student who spent his exchange semester at the University of Vaasa in Finland. 🇫🇮

Looking for a new cultural experience, Shoaziz chose Finland to discover what makes this country unique and to experience life in one of the world’s happiest nations.

“Coming to Finland was a chance to experience a new culture and understand why it is often ranked as the happiest country in the world. My exchange semester was an incredible experience, both academically and personally. I had always dreamed of seeing the Northern Lights, and during my time in Finland, I was lucky enough to witness them almost every day. But the most valuable part of this journey was meeting people I will never forget. Choosing Finland as my exchange destination was one of the best decisions I made.”

Every exchange journey is different — but each one offers the opportunity to explore new cultures, challenge yourself, and create memories that last far beyond the semester abroad. 🌍✨

Are you an international student at the Europa-Universität Viadrina with a foreign school-leaving qualification? Do you want to share your experience and inspire future students in your home country? 💙

The International Viadrina Ambassador Program gives you the opportunity to return to your former school and introduce students to studying at Viadrina, student life in Frankfurt (Oder), and your personal journey as an international student in Germany. 🎓🌍

As a Viadrina Ambassador, you will:
✨ share your own study experience and provide valuable tips to prospective students
✨ present the opportunities of studying at Viadrina and in Germany
✨ answer students’ questions and support them in their transition from school to university
✨ represent our international university community in your home country

The program includes a mandatory preparation workshop and professional presentation training to help you feel confident during your school visit. You will also receive support with your ambassador mission and a contribution towards your travel costs. ✈️

International Viadrina students from all fields of study who:
✔️ are currently studying at Viadrina
✔️ obtained their school-leaving qualification abroad
✔️ enjoy communicating and sharing their experiences with others

🌍📚 The journey to Viadrina starts here!

On 8 July, the 2026 summer programmes of Viadrina College kicked off at Europa-Universität Viadrina, bringing together 34 students from Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Poland, Russia, Vietnam, India and the USA.

Participants in Viadrina Fast Track, Viadrina Fast Track (ENG-Track), Studienbrücke and Viadrina Law Track are spending the summer preparing for their future studies in Germany. The preparatory programmes combine intensive language courses with subject-specific classes, helping students develop the linguistic and academic skills they need for their next step at Viadrina.

These photos were taken during a C1.1 German course, with participants from Viadrina Fast Track, Viadrina Law Track and Studienbrücke. A big thank you to Urszula Biermann for guiding the students through their German language preparation! 🇩🇪✨

After successfully completing their subject-specific preparation, the participants will take the Hochschulzugangsprüfung (HZP) and, where required, the DSH. Passing the necessary exams opens the way to their chosen Bachelor’s degree programme at Viadrina from October 2026. 🎓

🌍 From 25 July to 5 August 2026, 18 participants from the James Madison University (JMU) are taking part in the Exploration of Migration and Culture in Germany Summer Program 2026, one of the international programs offered within the Viadrina Summer Schools. 🎓

🎬 The program began with an engaging discussion of the documentary Shadow Game, led by Professor Robert Rydzewski, cultural anthropologist and migration scholar. Through interactive discussions, students explored key topics including migration, asylum, refugee rights, and EU migration policies. Participants asked thoughtful questions, shared diverse perspectives, and engaged critically with the realities behind migration journeys.

💬 Throughout the program, students are invited to explore questions of transformation, memory, migration, and the many perspectives that shape Europe today.

🤝 Together, we create spaces for dialogue, reflection, connection, and the exchange of stories across cultures, communities, and borders.

🌍 Building connections through international education
On 20–21 July, Viadrina had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Katja Amin, German teacher and Study & Career Advisor at the Neue Deutsche Schule Alexandria (Egypt).
During her visit, Dr. Amin gained insights into Viadrina’s study programmes, student services and international opportunities. She met with colleagues from different areas of the university, discussed possible future cooperation activities, joined a campus and library tour, and attended a law lecture to experience academic life at Viadrina first-hand.
The Neue Deutsche Schule Alexandria is a German School Abroad (Deutsche Auslandsschule) and part of the PASCH network (Schools: Partners for the Future). With around 90% of its graduates continuing their studies in Germany, the school represents an important bridge between international education and German higher education.
The visit reflects Viadrina’s commitment to building relationships with German Schools Abroad and creating opportunities for future cooperation.
As part of its broader commitment to supporting international students and strengthening cooperation with German Schools Abroad and German Language Diploma (DSD) schools, Viadrina also participates in the DAAD-funded BIDS project “Perspektive Viadrina”.
