Meet Miss L., a primary student and a true self-starter, inquirer, and initiator! Driven by her curiosity, Miss L. wanted to learn about something new, different, and a little more unusual.

Her curiosity led her to the fascinating world of pangolins, and what began as a simple question grew into an impressive independent investigation.

Ask a group of children what their favorite subject is, and you’ll likely hear some familiar answers: lunch, break time, art… and PE.

We sometimes smile about these answers, assuming children simply prefer the subjects that don’t involve quite so much sitting, writing, or calculating. But PE has a lot more to offer than a break from the classroom.

In a Grade 2 PE lesson today, our students were playing a dodgeball-style game, but they were also practicing teamwork, communication, spatial awareness, decision-making, reaction time, self-regulation, resilience, and sportsmanship.

They were learning to read situations quickly, adjust their strategies, follow rules, cope with setbacks, encourage others, and keep going when things didn’t go their way.

And yes, they were getting their hearts pumping, too. ❤️

Sometimes learning looks like a worksheet. Sometimes it looks like a child running across a gym, dodging a ball, calling to a teammate, and getting back up after being “out.”

There’s a lot of learning happening in both.

What a day! Our Welcome BBQ was a huge success, and we were absolutely thrilled to see so many families come together to celebrate the start of a new school year. ❤️

There was a little bit of everything: 🔥 a delicious barbecue, 🥗 a huge buffet filled with flavors from near and far, 🥤 refreshing drinks, 🎨 face painting, 🖌️ an art auction, 🪙 games, 🎶 instruments to discover and play, ☕ coffee & sweets, 🍦 ice cream, 🎈 balloons and festive decorations, 🐕 a P.E.T.S. Club sale, 🩳 a second-hand uniform sale, 🫧 and, of course, bubbles!

We even had umbrellas standing by just in case the rain decided to join us… but thankfully, the weather held out! ☀️🙌

And most of all, THANK YOU to our incredible PTO and all the parents, staff, and hardworking students who helped make today so special. It truly takes a community to create a day like this, and today, our community was shining. 💛

Thank you for bringing the smiles, the energy, the food, the music, the laughter, and so much love.
