Next Steps: At the upcoming project meeting with the European Commission, we report on the status quo of our Horizon 2020 funded research programme. We will keep you updated on this! 🤗

The construction of the demo houses reached its final stage. 🙌🏻 The last batch of NRG-Foam panels is arriving at the demo site in Sofia, Bulgaria. 🏘️ We are very excited that the demo houses will soon be ready and we will keep you updated about this.

The ageing chamber is ready to test the NRG-Foam panels. 🏁

What does the ageing chamber do? The chamber provides different conditions of heat and frost to emulate the environment to which the panels will be exposed and try to predict their long term utility lifespan. The applied programme is operated in such a way that each climatic cycle consists of, for example, 45 minutes of solar and UV radiation with heating to a temperature of +50 °C 🥵, and 45 minutes of freezing to -20 °C 🥶. The time of each cycle may also be extended or shortened.

Such quick changes in temperature simulate the accelerated ageing of the samples: 100 simulated cycles correspond to about 2️⃣ years of natural weathering (based on literature). The tests are made to check the behaviour of the phase change material embedded in the ultra-light foam-cement composite under heating-cooling cycles.

On a business trip ✈️ in Sofia, Bulgaria: On January 31 📆📌, the CEO of Röser Ingenieurbeton (RIB) and the project coordinators of TU Damstadt trained the employees of the project partner GBS in Sofia on how to correctly applicate the NRG-Foam insulation boards. 👉🏻 to get some impressions of our application training.

Despite temperatures close to freezing 🥶, we had a lot of fun showing our Bulgarian partner the application of the NRG-Walls. 🤗

Practice makes perfect ✨ 03/03/2023

Before the new NRG Foam insulation panels are installed in Bulgaria 🇧🇬, project partners Netzsch, Röser Ingenieurbeton (RIB) and TU Darmstadt tested the correct application of the insulation panels on RIB's company site.

Once again you realize how fast time flies when you work with your hands. 😅

To enable the testing of a new NRG-Wall sample in the hotbox, employees of the project partner NETZSCH are installing the necessary temperature and heat flux sensors. ⚙️🔧

While the production of the NRG-Foam insulation panels is running at full speed 🔥, the NRG-Walls are tested in the hotbox at CAE in Würzburg.

With lots of necessary man- 👷🏼💪🏼 and womanpower 👷🏻‍♀️💪🏻, another NRG-Wall sample is changed for a new hotbox measurement.
