Last week, the Husserl Archives at the University of Cologne hosted the international workshop 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙇𝙞𝙢𝙞𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝘾𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙦𝙪𝙚: 𝙋𝙝𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙄𝙙𝙚𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙮.
Over two days, scholars from different countries came together to explore the relationship between phenomenology and ideology critique. Among the central questions were whether phenomenological description can itself serve as a method of emancipation from ideology, how lived experience is shaped by social and political structures, and how ideology critique might, in turn, benefit from phenomenological analyses.
The workshop featured contributions by Carlos Anaya, Lucie Boulay, Piero Carreras, Francesca Casciotta, Andréa Delestrade, Paul Gigon, Tris Hedges, Weronika Maciejewska, Bence Peter Marosan, Damian Nussbaumer, Vanessa Ossino, Dror Pimentel, Simon van Ramshorst. The discussions ranged from gender ideology, social imaginaries and reification to political belonging, science, war, Marxism, and political phenomenology.
We would like to thank all speakers and participants for their stimulating contributions and lively discussions, and especially Sara Dameno, Gudrun Reucher, and Ragna Winniewski for their indispensable work behind the scenes.
The workshop was organized by Marco Cavallaro and Jesús Guillermo Ferrer Ortega in the framework of two DFG funded projects.
It was a great pleasure to welcome everyone to Cologne and to see the Husserl Archives become a space for such an intensive exchange on the critical and political potential of phenomenology.
