What does corporate sustainability really look like? 🌱📊🤖🌍🔎💡📈
European companies are reporting significantly more on sustainability than they did ten years ago. But more transparency does not automatically mean better sustainability performance.
A new study by WiSo Professor Maximilian Müller and co-authors Kerstin Forster, Lucas Keil, Victor Wagner, Thorsten Sellhorn and Stefan Feuerriegel uses artificial intelligence to make millions of previously hidden ESG data points systematically comparable. 🤖 The findings reveal significant differences across ESG indicators – from progress in gender equality to varying developments in environmental indicators. 🌱⚖️
The study, published in Nature Communications, also shows how the availability of data can influence our perception of companies’ sustainability performance. The team has made the dataset and methodology freely available, creating new opportunities for researchers, companies, policymakers, media, NGOs, investors and society to analyse and compare sustainability information. 🔓📚
