On the night of Saturday, August 22, 2026, around 9:30 p.m., a Baltimore Police officer was issuing a citation for a vehicle with suspended and expired tags in the 300 block of North Eutaw Street near Lexington Market.

The officer was waiting for a tow truck when a 29-year-old man approached. According to Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley, the man first denied owning the car, then admitted it was his.

The officer allowed him to enter the vehicle to retrieve his belongings while a second officer was en route to help block the car.

The man got into the driver’s seat, put the car in drive, and accelerated into the officer.

Despite orders to stop, he reversed and accelerated again, dragging the officer a short distance. The officer then fired at least three rounds into the vehicle, striking the driver.

Officers pulled the wounded man from the car and rendered aid until medics arrived. The 29-year-old was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

The officer was also taken to the hospital for treatment of neck and back injuries.

Commissioner Worley stated that Mayor Brandon Scott has reviewed the body-camera footage and that the Department of Justice has been notified.

As with all serious officer-involved shootings in Maryland, the case is under investigation by the Office of the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division.

The bystander video circulating online shows the aftermath: the man in a pink tracksuit lying on the street near the open driver’s door of a dark sedan, blood visible, officers attending to him, and a crowd gathering.

Official accounts make clear the shooting followed the vehicle striking and dragging the officer.

No names of the officer or the 29-year-old driver have been publicly released at this time. 🇨🇩

𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐌𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐭 𝐈𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤 | While Fleeing — Then the First Ambulance Took the White Officer Having a Panic Attack Instead of the Dying Black Man

On March 31, 2025, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, 39-year-old Dyshan Best, a Black father and commercial truck driver, was fatally shot in the back by Bridgeport Police Officer Yoon Heo during a foot chase.

Officers, including Heo and Officer Erin Perrotta, responded to reports of a large fight involving up to 30 people outside a funeral gathering on East Main Street. Witnesses indicated guns may have been present.

Best was a passenger in a black Chevrolet Tahoe that officers approached. When ordered out for a pat-down, Best fled on foot holding a liquor bottle, a v**e pen, and a cellphone.

During the chase through a gas station and onto Kossuth Street, Best discarded the bottle and, according to the state’s Inspector General investigation and bodycam footage, retrieved a 9mm handgun.

Officer Heo fired two shots after Best extended his right arm backward while holding the pistol. One round struck Best in the lower back/torso, damaging his liver and right kidney. A Highpoint Compact 9mm handgun was recovered next to where he fell.

Bodycam footage shows Best lying on the ground, conscious, saying he had been shot and struggling to breathe. Officers provided initial aid.

The first ambulance arrived around 6:02 p.m. — but at the direction of officers on scene, it transported Officer Perrotta, who was experiencing what was described as a mild anxiety/panic attack and had blood on her uniform.

Perrotta later declined medical treatment in the ambulance, saying she just needed to leave the scene.

A second ambulance arrived approximately 10 minutes later and took Best to Bridgeport Hospital. He underwent emergency surgery and was pronounced dead at 7:41 p.m.

In its final report released in March 2026, Connecticut Inspector General Eliot Prescott concluded that Officer Heo’s use of deadly force was legally justified, finding that Best had pointed a loaded firearm backward at the pursuing officer, creating a reasonable belief of imminent serious injury or death.

The report did not determine whether the ambulance delay affected Best’s survival chances.

Best’s family, represented by attorney Darnell Crosland, disputes the finding that he was armed with a gun (maintaining it was a v**e pen) and has criticized both the shooting and the decision to prioritize the officer’s transport.

The family has announced plans to pursue a civil lawsuit against the city. Dyshan Best left behind children and was remembered by relatives as a community volunteer who painted faces at events and helped with local drives. 🇨🇩

𝐃𝐨𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫’𝐬 𝐁𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐬 | Black Boy With Permanent Arm and Shoulder Damage — Family Awarded $18.2 Million

A North Carolina family has received a measure of justice after years of fighting. In July 2026, a Wake County jury awarded $18.2 million to 6-year-old Naqah Lake and his mother, Laurel Browne, finding that a doctor’s actions during his 2019 birth caused permanent nerve damage.

On September 17, 2019, Laurel Browne went into labor at WakeMed Raleigh Campus Hospital.

During delivery, the baby’s shoulder became lodged — a complication known as shoulder dystocia. According to court records and the family’s lawsuit, a resident physician then performed a fetal vertex rotation, turning the baby’s head while the shoulder remained stuck.

Attorneys for the family described this as a maneuver that should never be used in that situation.

The result was catastrophic. Naqah suffered a severe brachial plexus injury. Two of the five nerves that control the shoulder, arm, and hand were ripped from his spinal cord, a third was partially torn, and the remaining nerves were damaged.

He required resuscitation at birth. At around six months old he underwent surgery to try to repair the nerves and remove scar tissue, but the damage was permanent. He lives with lifelong weakness, limited mobility, and disfigurement of his left arm and hand.

Everyday tasks that most children take for granted — holding a bottle, crawling, carrying a backpack, opening a lunch container — remain difficult or impossible without help.

After a five-week trial, the jury found the doctor and hospital negligent and awarded $18.2 million — $2.2 million in economic damages and $16 million in non-economic damages for the child, plus a portion for the mother. It is reported as the largest verdict of its kind for a brachial plexus birth injury in North Carolina.

Under state law, the non-economic portion is subject to a statutory cap and is expected to be reduced significantly by the judge.

No amount of money can undo what happened in the delivery room. The verdict does, however, provide resources for lifelong care and represents accountability after years of legal proceedings.

Naqah and his mother continue to face the daily realities of a disability that began the moment he was born. 🇨🇩

Sometimes I seriously ask myself: What message are we sending to the next generation?

Our children are watching us. They watch their favorite athletes, entertainers and public figures. They don't just see their success — they see how they live, who they celebrate, and what they present as valuable.

Look at the example many white children grow up seeing. A young white boy may admire a white athlete, boxer or entertainer as his hero. He doesn't only see the man's success. He also sees the life that man presents to the world — and very often, he sees a white man building a family with a white woman.

That child grows up seeing people who look like his mother, his sister and himself represented in the lives of the people he admires.

So what image are we giving Black children when they look up to their own heroes?

Black children deserve to grow up seeing Black love, Black families and Black women being celebrated too.

Many of our sons have Black mothers, Black sisters and Black girls growing up beside them. What message are we giving them if they rarely see the women who look like them being publicly valued by the men they admire?

This is about what we choose to value, what we choose to celebrate, and what kind of example we leave for the next generation.

Black love matters. Black families matter. And Black women deserve to see themselves loved, honored and valued by the men in their own community.

We cannot constantly ask the world to recognize our worth while failing to show that same appreciation within our own community.

I want our sons to grow up proud of Black women. I want our daughters to see themselves as beautiful, worthy and loved. I want a Black child to look at the people they admire and think:

“My mother is worthy. My sister is worthy. My people are worthy. And so am I.”

That's the image I want the next generation to inherit.

So maybe the question isn't who somebody chooses to marry.

The real question is: What are we teaching our children to value? 🇨🇩

𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐞 | N-Word and Brags About the K*K in Tennessee Traffic — Until He Spots the Camera and Tries to Hide.

A white man in a white sedan was caught on video during a road-rage confrontation in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, repeatedly directing racial slurs at a Black driver and invoking the Ku Klux Klan — only to abruptly try to hide the moment he realized he was being recorded.

The incident unfolded in late May 2026 near a Sam’s Club and roadway in the Murfreesboro area (close to Nashville). In the footage, the man, later identified by online users as local resident

Ryken Monahan, can be heard yelling phrases including “Learn how to drive, jackass,” followed by the N-word, and then declaring, “You know where we’re at? We’re in Tennessee. This is where the K*K originated.” He appears smiling and confident while making the remarks while on his phone.

When he noticed the camera pointed at him from the other vehicle, his demeanor shifted immediately. He leaned back in his seat and attempted to move out of frame in an effort to conceal his face.

The video was first shared on TikTok by the account (titled along the lines of a “casual day in Nashville”). It quickly spread across platforms.

Online users matched still images from the clip to social-media profiles linked to Ryken Monahan of Murfreesboro. Those accounts were reportedly deleted shortly afterward.

Coverage from outlets including Atlanta Black Star and NewsOne confirmed the circulating identification and the content of the audio.

As of the latest available reports, no formal police arrest or official charges related to the incident had been publicly announced. The confrontation remained a social-media story driven by the clear audio and visual evidence of the racial language and the man’s reaction to being filmed.

The clip has been widely discussed as another example of everyday racial harassment captured in public, with many noting the rapid change from bravado to retreat once accountability in the form of a camera appeared.

Tennessee is historically the birthplace of the Ku Klux Klan (founded in Pulaski in 1865), a fact the man referenced during the exchange. 🇨🇩

𝐔𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐌𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐇𝐢𝐬 | Fists — White Officer Shot Him Twice in the Chest and Once in the Head. Nearly a Year Later, the Officer Is Indicted for Murder.

Rajon Belt-Stubblefield was 37 years old when his life ended on a busy Aurora, Colorado street on the evening of August 30, 2025.

Around 7:30 p.m. near East 6th Avenue and Billings Street (close to Sable Boulevard), Aurora Police Officer Matthew Neely, 54, attempted to stop Belt-Stubblefield’s vehicle for speeding and a possible DUI. Belt-Stubblefield did not stop.

He fled, struck two other vehicles in a crash that disabled his car, then got out. Body-camera and surveillance footage show the rapid sequence that followed.

Belt-Stubblefield exited the vehicle saying “Don’t shoot me.” He threw a handgun into the grass. A physical struggle occurred. Officer Neely punched him. Belt-Stubblefield raised his fists, advanced, and repeatedly said words to the effect of “You ready for this?”

Neely fired three shots — two into the chest and one into the head. Belt-Stubblefield was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy later showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.274, more than three times the legal limit.

His son was nearby and witnessed parts of the confrontation. Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain initially described the incident as a tragic but necessary response to an aggressive threat after the gun was discarded and the man advanced.

The officer was placed on administrative leave.
Nearly a year later, in early August 2026, an Arapahoe County grand jury returned an indictment charging Officer Matthew Neely with second-degree murder and manslaughter.

He surrendered, posted a $200,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear in court. District Attorney Amy Padden stated the grand jury found probable cause after an independent Critical Incident Response Team investigation.

Chief Chamberlain released a statement saying the department respects the judicial process and that filing charges is not a determination of guilt.

Belt-Stubblefield’s family, represented in part by civil-rights attorney Benjamin Crump, has called the shooting unjustifiable and is seeking full accountability. They have previously announced plans for civil action.

This case joins a long list of high-profile officer-involved shootings in Aurora that continue to raise questions about de-escalation, use of force, and accountability when a traffic stop turns fatal in seconds. 🇨🇩
