Excited to be attending the MEFITPRO Summit in Dubai! 3.-5. October 2024 🎉 I’ll be presenting the HYROX365 Academy education system, diving into the key topics of planning and periodization for HYROX. 💪🏽

I’m especially looking forward to introducing the HYROX YOUNGSTARS coach education program, which brings functional fitness and fitness racing to the next generation of youth athletes. 🏋️‍♂️🏃‍♀️

It was a remarkable moment for me to come back to Manchester, almost exactly 23 years since my international career in sports here began. Back in January 2001, fresh from my experience at the Sydney Olympics as an athletics coach for South Africa, I embarked on a new chapter as the Regional Performance Manager with UK Athletics. I vividly remember the weather greeting us, similar to this weekend, as I arrived in Manchester with my family. That role marked the beginning of my international sports career, taking me to numerous countries globally. An unforgettable moment was the 2003 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, where I had the privilege to coach Decathlete Jamie Quarry who won the bronze medal. It was great meeting Jamie and his son at the HYROX event this weekend, where they both competed.

Fast forward to today, I'm thrilled to be part of an innovative organization like HYROX, the World Series of Fitness. Since HYROX's launch in 2017, we've seen incredible growth - 65 events across 17 countries and over 120,000 participants in the 2023/24 season alone. It's a testament to the growing popularity of this new fitness race. And this is definitely not the end of the journey ...

An essential part of this year's programme was again a guided tour through the historic old town of Görlitz.

Joint activities in the city and at the lake make you hungry! The Kretscham in Tauchritz offers the best opportunities to get together after an eventful day and review the day over a meal together.

Cooking and preparing meals together; at the Lectures by the Lake, the team idea is writ large! Working together in the kitchen, you get to talk to your fellow participants. this year it was again a very international cuisine, as each participant (with the support of their colleagues) prepared a dish from their country.

Visit to the Regional Development Company for Upper Lusatia (ENO). Here, the Master's students were able to present their ideas to the jury members as part of a hackathon.

We had a great time at Lectures by the Lake again this summer. This year the topic was "Increasing the attractiveness of Upper Lusatia for foreign professionals". After the presentations, the students again had time for talks and discussions at the Guesthouse Kretscham. This year's special guest was Mario Linack from Barmer Krankenversicherung. Mr Linack is also the chairman of the Zittau Görlitz University of Applied Sciences' support association and was happy to exchange ideas with the students.

For aspiring entrepreneurs and start-ups, securing funding is often a significant challenge. This summer's Lectures by the Lake event will address this concern by providing valuable information about the funding opportunities available in Saxony.

Exploring Business Opportunities and Start-Up Funding at Lectures by the Lake in July 2023
Lectures by the Lake, an annual event known for its informative presentations and networking opportunities, is set to take place 04-08th July 2023 at the picturesque Lake Berzdorf, 10km south of Görlitz
This year, attendees will have the unique chance to visit the Chamber of Commerce (IHK) in Görlitz, where the CEO will provide valuable insights into their work and shed light on the business opportunities available in the region. Moreover, participants will gain valuable knowledge about funding opportunities for start-ups in Saxony, making this event a must-attend for aspiring entrepreneurs and business enthusiasts alike.

The Chamber of Commerce (IHK) in Görlitz serves - among other services for companies in the region - as a hub for young and aspiring entrepreneurs, offering support, guidance, and a platform to foster innovative ideas. The presentation during the Lectures by the Lake event will provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the organization's work and its significance in the region's business landscape. By visiting the institution, participants will have the opportunity to witness firsthand the entrepreneurial spirit and innovation flourishing in Görlitz and the region, which has been undergoing a major structural change over the past years.
The presentation and following Q&A will shed light on the key sectors driving the local economy, highlighting potential areas for investment and growth. The garden at the Kretscham invites for outside activities as well as workshops and projects. In the evening this is the place where participants come together for barbecue and dinner.

Today we had a great HYROX training session at Bertzdorfersee. Still a bit cold but blue sky and great views over the lake while we had a running session with HYROX workouts and the famous wall balls at the end ;-)

How can international professionals be attracted to the Upper Lusatia region? This was the topic and the task of the students in my MBA courses Leadership and Operational Management at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences. In their presentations, which the students gave to a panel, almost all of the 30 students agreed: Language is a very important factor when it comes to the social integration of immigrant workers. Almost all of the contributions agreed that active support from the federal government and/or the state and district must be provided here and that this must be a very proactive process. Another topic was the area of entrepreneurship and the question of why there are so few entrepreneurs - including small entrepreneurs - in the district and why there are courses on entrepreneurship offered in schools and universities to give school leavers an understanding of the area of entrepreneurship.
Especially Ranjeet Singh and Bist had some very good approaches here. , at the age of 26, can already look back on several successful start-ups in his home country of India.
