Vorbereitung Kommunikationsprüfung Realschule (Ba-Wü!) Ende Februar 2024

Ich biete zur Vorbereitung auf die Englisch Kommunikationsprüfung der Realschule Termine zu allen drei Modulen der Prüfung ab nächster Woche wie folgt an:

Modul 1: eigene Präsentation üben*
5 Termine:
mittwochs: 24.1., 31.1., 7.2., 14.2. und 21.2.24, 15-16 Uhr

Modul 2: freies Sprechen anhand eines zufällig gewählten Themas üben*
5 Termine:
dienstags, 23.1., 30.1., 6.2., 13.2. und 20.2.24, 17.30-18.30 Uhr

Modul 3: dolmetschen üben*
5 Termine:
donnerstags, 25.1., 1.2., 8.2., 15.2. und 22.2.24, 16-17 Uhr

Der Unterricht findet online, komplett auf Englisch und in Kleingruppen von 3-6 SchülerInnen statt. Die Stunde kostet 15€ pro Teilnehmer. Module können auch einzeln gebucht werden, jedoch keine einzelnen Stunden.

*Was wir hier tun ist Englisch sprechen üben. Die Präsentationen für Modul 1 müssen die SchülerInnen selber vorab bereits erstellt haben. Ich korrigiere, wo nötig, das Vortragen und gebe Tipps, aber diese Stunden sind kein Nachhilfeunterricht für fehlende Grammatik und auch nicht als Verbesserung des Präsentationsinhalts gedacht. Hier geht es wirklich um das Sprechen üben und Angst verlieren.

Do you know what a transitional slip is? Transitional slips happen quite often, even at a high level of English. It simply means a learner is usually able to self correct and it wasn’t a real error. Lack of attention, tiredness or mental overload caused it.

Today I am talking about a transitional slip I often hear with my German students: the use of "for“ instead of "ago“.

I have noticed during my lessons that my students often use "until" when they should be using "by" when they are referring to a deadline. I hope this short video explains the difference :-)

One of my main goals is for my students to achieve a level of confidence that enables them to really speak English. After all, that is often the main reason why my customers come to me: they want to improve their English so they are finally able to speak to their customers or suppliers without worrying about grammar or vocabulary mistakes! They want to enter those business negotiations in a way they easily do so in German, again, without worrying about grammar or vocabulary mistakes! However, I noticed over the past 10 years as an English teacher that most of my customers don't need to worry about these at all! They are good! What they lack is confidence. And confidence comes from practising!

As such, I am going to offer a new small group course where we solely focus on speaking English, starting in January 2023. In a group of no more than 5 participants we will talk for 45 minutes. During the last 15 minutes I will point out general grammatical errors and make suggestions for better vocabulary, so you can grow your confidence further! There are no mistakes, mistakes are simply feedback!

For those early risers and busy people I am going to offer this "English Breakfast" on Thursday mornings between 7-8am for advanced speakers, starting on Thursday 12th January 2023, and on Friday mornings between 7-8am for intermediate speakers, starting on Friday 13th January 2023!

I always advocate exposure to your target language on as regular a basis as possible, and the best way to do this is WATCHING FILMS!

But........never do this with a new film, as if you get lost then you will probably give up. The audio options makes it too easy to switch back to German if we want! Only watch a new film if you are confident enough 🙂

So, start by watching films you know. Your favourite romantic comedy or action thriller.

Exposure to the target language is a great way to help improve, and lets face it, John McClane sounds much better when it's Bruce Willis yelling "Yippee ki yay mother F****r!"
