Der Artikel „Fixing election interference, safeguarding election integrity? Developments and dynamics of election-related policies on social media platforms“ von Prof. Christian Katzenbach, Vasilisa Kuznetsova und Prof. Elizabeth Dubois wurde in der Fachzeitschrift Information, Communication & Society veröffentlicht.
Der Beitrag baut auf Forschung zu Plattform-Governance auf und nutzt Daten des Platform Governance Archive (PGA) und untersucht, wie große Social-Media-Plattformen ihre Richtlinien zu Wahlen im Laufe der Zeit entwickelt haben. Die Autor*innen identifizieren dabei drei Phasen. In der ersten Phase standen der Schutz von Wahlprozessen und der an Wahlen beteiligten Akteur*innen vor Einflussnahme und Manipulation im Mittelpunkt. In der zweiten Phase erkannten die Plattformen zunehmend ihre Rolle bei der Gestaltung öffentlicher Debatten an und übernahmen mehr Verantwortung für den Schutz demokratischer Prozesse.

The article “Fixing election interference, safeguarding election integrity? Developments and dynamics of election-related policies on social media platforms”, written by Prof. Christian Katzenbach, Vasilisa Kuznetsova and Prof. Elizabeth Dubois, has been published in Information, Communication & Society.
The study builds on research on platform governance and draws on data from the Platform Governance Archive (PGA). It examines how major social media platforms have developed election-related policies over time. The authors identify three phases in the development of election-related platform policies. An early phase focused on protecting election processes and actors from interference. During a second phase platforms increasingly recognised their role in shaping public debate and took on greater responsibility for protecting democratic processes. In the last few years, however, many platforms have scaled back some of these commitments and become more cautious in their approach.

Prof. Christian Katzenbach nahm am RAIN Film Festival in Barcelona teil. Das von der Universitat Pompeu Fabra organisierte internationale Festival findet vom 14. bis 15. Juni 2026 statt, widmet sich dem KI-generierten Kino und dient als Treffpunkt für Forschung, kreatives Schaffen und kritisches Denken.

Im Rahmen des Forschungstages am 15. Juni im Auditorium des Campus Poblenou hielt Prof. Christian Katzenbach die Keynote „Bringing Generative AI into Being: Controversies, Corporate Power and Creative Work“. Er griff eine kritische Debatte auf: Wer legt die Regeln fest, was KI erschaffen darf und was nicht? Und wer profitiert davon?
Ausgehend von der Kontroverse um KI-generierte Bilder im Stil von Studio Ghibli im Jahr 2025 hob er den Widerspruch hervor, dass Plattformen Künstler öffentlich unterstützen, gleichzeitig aber die Nachahmung populärer Ästhetik fördern und die Verantwortung stillschweigend an die Nutzer abgeben.
