On 10 March 2020, at 11 a.m., Stela 87 from Tak'alik Ab'aj was officially presented to the public in the National Palace of Guatemala with the participation of the Minister of Culture and Sports, Lidiette Silvana Martínez, and the President of the Republic, Dr. Alejandro Giammattei.

The monument was found in September 2018 and has since been epigraphically and iconographically studied by an international team of experts. The directors of the Tak'alik Ab'aj National Park, Christa Schieber de Lavarreda and Miguel Orrego Corzo were in charge of the project. On behalf of the project "Text Database and Dictionary of Classic Mayan", Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Nikolai Grube, Dr. Sven Gronemeyer, Dr. Christian M. Prager and Elisabeth Wagner participated. Further experts came from Russia, Guatemala and the United States.
