AfroMigra Empowerment 2026 in Bielefeld Germany🇩🇪

Germany is a country of migrants. Nonetheless, the black community is still not yet working together. This meeting organised by Afrika Wakati e.V. seeks ideas to how we can empower one another.

Your medical, psychological, educational, nursery, banking , law, social work, political, entrepreneurial expertise can be of help to our black community in Bielefeld. Some of you can be great role models for the children and youths growing up in this city.

Everyone is welcome, so let‘s come together!

Cultural Differences: Germany’s Free Body Culture (Freikörperkultur)

One of the most surprising cultural differences for many newcomers to Germany is Freikörperkultur (FKK), which translates to “Free Body Culture.”

In certain parks, beaches, and designated areas, it is completely normal for people to be n**e. What may seem unusual or even shocking from another cultural perspective is often viewed here as an expression of personal freedom, body acceptance, and a relaxed relationship with nature.

Coming from Ghana, where public nudity would be interpreted very differently, this was something I had never encountered before. Experiences like these remind us that the same behavior can have very different meanings across cultures.

When you move to a new country, not everything will make sense immediately. Instead of judging, it can be helpful to observe, learn, and respect cultural differences. Over time, many things that once seemed strange become easier to understand.

Different culture, different norms, same humanity.

Presenting Afrika Wakati e.V. to Students of Bielefeld University

Today Dr. Paul Agoe, lecturer of „Africa Diaspora Organization in Germany" at the University of Bielefeld invited Afrika Wakati, an organising that promotes integration and education among African migrants, to offer his students valuable insights into the work and challenges faced by Africans in Germany.

It was an opportunity for me to share with them what exactly Afrika Wakati does and continues to do, among which the organising of the OWL Afro-festival and the building of a Community Sewing center.

We extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Paul Agoe and Bielefeld University for the invitation, as well as for the open and enriching exchange.

Community Atelier Bielefeld…A Project of Afrika Wakati

The Community Atelier in Bielefeld is set up by Afrika Wakati as a place where black people in the city can come around and connect with one another as well as learn basic sewing skills. Of course it is also opened to all people.

Today the German TV Station WDR came around for press recording. The Community Atelier is opened every wednesday, thursday and sunday to the general public.

I managed to sew a bag for the first time as seen in the pictures.

Studying in German🇩🇪 Tuition Free Universities📚…Two New Ghanaians arrived for their Masters

Sam and her husband arrived in Germany this April. Their mentor thought it would be nice for us to meet. Since finding accommodation can be especially difficult for newcomers, I gave her my room in the student residence and moved to a new apartment.

I spent almost two years in Hamburg at the beginning learning German and doing the Studienkolleg, so I know the city a bit. Since yesterday was a holiday and they wanted to visit Hamburg, I decided to bring them — a city that is home to one of the largest Ghanaian communities in Germany.🌿

Graduation Day🇬🇭🇩🇪

Let me tell you something you already know: sometimes, the deepest wounds we cause are inflicted on the people who loved us most sincerely.

They approached us with kindness – perhaps with something as simple as a flower, a compliment, a gentle admiration. And we answered them with humiliation, silence, or public ridicule. They spoke highly of us, defended us, believed in us, and in return we labeled their affection as “too much,” “strange,” or even harassment.

And yet they stayed quiet – not because they felt nothing, but because sometimes the people we misunderstood were simply trying to love us in the only way they knew how.

University of Bielefeld’s International Festival 2026🇩🇪

We proudly represented Ghana 🇬🇭 at the international students' festival. Our culture was shared through traditional dishes such as Jollof Rice, Waakye, and Sobolo, bringing a taste of home to the festival.

KD also represented us through music and dance by performing Azonto and presenting three of his own songs. It was a beautiful opportunity to celebrate culture, unity, and the diversity that international students bring to the university community.
