The Anthropocene as Multiple Crisis: Perspectives from Latin America
The Anthropocene has become the subject of a myriad of scholarly inquiries from just as many directions. The Maria Sibylla Merian Center for Advanced Latin American Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences (CALAS - Center for Advanced Latin American Studies) presents one of these outlooks: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘦 𝘢𝘴 𝘔𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘊𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘴: 𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘓𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢.
This series of handbooks published by Bielefeld University Press and edited by Olaf Kaltmeier, Eleonora Rohland, Gerardo Cham and Susana Herrera-Lima is the result of research originating from CALAS and systematically advances contributions that investigate the relations of environmental crises, earth systems and planetary boundaries that brought forth the Anthropocene. The editors recognise the Anthropocene as entangled with the causal relations of the 𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘴 currently presenting on the planet. Departing from unique outsets of historically, culturally and environmentally contingent contexts, this research contributes to an empirically supported genealogy of the Anthropocene and its multiple crisis from Latin America.

This volume tackles climate change as one of the aspects of human activity and thus as constitutive of the Anthropocene. The scholars in this instalment conceptualise the climate as an expression of dialectical forces comprising the relation between the anthropos and nature. Editors Rohland, García Acosta, Goebel McDermott and Taks primarily investigate coping mechanisms of affected communities in the face of climate variation which is increasingly disturbed by human intervention.

El Antropoceno se encuentra en el centro de varias investigaciones académicas desde lugares diferentes. El Centro Maria Sibylla Merian de Estudios Latinoamericanos Avanzados (CALAS - Center for Advanced Latin American Studies) presenta uno de estos orígenes: El Antropoceno como crisis múltiple: Perspectivas desde América Latina.
La serie sobre el Antropoceno, publicada por Bielefeld University Press, es editada por Olaf Kaltmeier, Eleonora Rohland, Gerardo Cham y Susana Herrera-Lima y es el resultado de investigaciones del CALAS. Los volúmenes tratan de desenredar los efectos antropogénicos en las crisis ambientales, los sistemas terrestres y los límites planetarios.
