Within the EUonAIR alliance, we continue to strengthen connections between universities, cities, and innovation ecosystems across Europe. This vision came to life through our collaboration in the 14th BCN Digital Challenge, a university entrepreneurship competition focused on real social impact.
Organised by students from CEU UAO, the event involved EUonAIR and partner Citilab, highlighting our shared mission to address societal challenges through innovation and collaboration.
The initiative aimed to empower students to solve real-world problems, connect academic talent with organisations, and foster scalable, impactful innovation. Participants worked on challenges from Cáritas, Aredi, and Citilab, developing solutions to support vulnerable communities.
With support from sponsors such as Codorníu and L’Oréal Professionnel Paris, this edition also introduced international participation through EUonAIR, bringing together students from across Europe. Partner universities included HHN, HTW Berlin, Luxembourg School of Business, and IEU (Ukraine), strengthening the competition’s cross-border dimension.
The BCN Digital Challenge demonstrates how collaboration between universities, organisations, and cities can drive meaningful, socially driven innovation.

In the last week of March, representatives of the EUonAIR European University Alliance took part in the annual ICP (Inter-University Cooperation Programme) Network Meeting at HOGENT in Ghent, Belgium. The meeting took place as part of HOGENT’s International Week, bringing together partners from across Europe.
Coordinators Sarah Marx and Anne Hübinger, together with Claus Lange, Head of the International Office at HTW Berlin, presented the alliance’s activities and developments that took place at HTW Berlin.
Their presentation, “Turning a Local Initiative into a European Strategy: From BeCOIL to EUonAIR,” showcased how EUonAIR is becoming increasingly visible and impactful at HTW Berlin, highlighting the development of a comprehensive course catalogue, bringing together a wide range of AI-related courses across the alliance, as well as the successful implementation of the first EUonAIR Blended Intensive Programme (Erasmus+ BIP) at HTW Berlin and the presentation of the EUonAIR HTW Smart Cities Lab as a physical and digital hub for applied AI, collaboration and urban innovation.
Looking ahead, EUonAIR continues to expand its activities at HTW Berlin with new Virtual Exchange formats such as Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programmes. The development of the virtual campus MyAI University, as well as plans for joint study programmes at Bachelor’s and Master’s level, will give students further opportunities to be part of the European university.
Participation in the ICP Network Meeting and HOGENT’s international week also provided an opportunity to exchange with long-standing international partners and to strengthen collaboration within a well-established network dedicated to advancing internationalisation in higher education.

At the start of the summer semester, EUonAIR was introduced to new students at HTW Berlin as part of the orientation days. Student Board representative Carlos Maza, himself an international degree-seeking master student at HTW Berlin, welcomed incoming and degree-seeking students and provided an overview of the EUonAIR university alliance and its opportunities.
In parallel, the International Office was present with an information stand, offering guidance on study abroad options and highlighting the possibilities for international experiences within EUonAIR.
Together, these activities aimed to raise awareness of international opportunities early on and to encourage students to engage with the European university alliance from the very beginning of their studies.
We wish all HTWB students a great start to the new semester!

This March, the Universitat CEU Abat Oliba hosted the session “The Relevance of Walter Benjamin in Times of AI and Disinformation”, organised in collaboration with the Consulate General of Germany in Barcelona and framed within the European project EUonAIR, which focuses on strengthening media literacy and critical thinking across Europe.
During the event, speakers addressed key topics such as media literacy, the importance of developing critical thinking skills, and the need to navigate an information environment increasingly shaped by the spread of disinformation and the growing impact of artificial intelligence on communication.
The discussion featured Vincenzo Mele, Professor of General Sociology at the University of Pisa, whose international academic work has centred on the study of modernity, the metropolis, social imaginaries and aesthetics. He was joined by Swen Seebach, Professor and Vice-Rector of CEU UAO, an expert in AI imaginaries, who offered an analysis of the relevance of Walter Benjamin’s thought in light of today’s informational and technological challenges. The session was moderated by Sasha Molotkova, international journalist and Director of the Master’s in Digital Communication and New Technologies at the University.
Throughout the session, participants reflected on how media and technologies influence perceptions of reality, the circulation of information and the quality of civic engagement in contemporary society.
This initiative, developed within the framework of EUonAIR, reinforces the commitment of Universitat CEU Abat Oliba to promoting critical reflection and creating spaces for dialogue around the major international challenges at the intersection of communication, technology and society.

The EUonAIR Annual Conference is here.
Bringing together academia, industry, and policy to explore how AI moves from strategy to real-world implementation — responsibly, and with people at the center.
The conference presents EUonAIR project results across all work packages, including developments in AI-enhanced education, open research and innovation, AI-assisted mobility, and the integration of universities within smart and sustainable city ecosystems. A central focus is MyAI University, the alliance's flagship adaptive learning platform, shaping the future of higher education through personalised education, new teaching formats, and cross-institutional collaboration.
A key moment to align partners, engage external stakeholders, and demonstrate how AI can be effectively integrated into education and organisational practice across Europe.
This year's programme features two distinguished Nobel Laureates, further highlighting the international significance of the event:
Joel Mokyr, current Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences Laureate, is renowned for his work on the historical dynamics of technological change, knowledge diffusion, and innovation-driven growth. His research provides a critical framework for understanding how technologies like AI reshape economies, institutions, and education systems, which lies at the core of EUonAIR's mission.
John Martinis, current Nobel Laureate in Physics, is a leading figure in the development of superconducting qubits and quantum computing architectures, including work that enabled major breakthroughs such as quantum supremacy. His research directly relates to the future computational foundations of AI, aligning with EUonAIR's focus on next-generation technologies and AI-driven innovation.

In early March 2026, UniPi launched the initiative “Equality in the First Person,” led by its Gender Equality and Anti-Discrimination Committee. It brought together students, researchers, faculty and staff to reflect on equality, diversity and discrimination in academic and social life.
As part of the EUonAIR alliance, the University of Piraeus promotes shared values through initiatives that encourage inclusive participation, open dialogue and community engagement. The programme served as a participatory platform where members of the university community exchanged experiences and explored how to embed equality into institutional culture.
Activities included film screenings, discussions, expert input and interactive sessions focused on inclusion and everyday discrimination. By linking personal experiences with broader social challenges, participants engaged in meaningful dialogue supported by artistic expression and collaboration with civil society.
This initiative reflects EUonAIR’s commitment to strengthening European values and fostering inclusive learning environments. Through critical thinking, participation and community-based learning, universities help prepare individuals to address complex societal issues and contribute to a more inclusive Europe.

🏙️ Mobility, land-use planning, material reuse, vehicle charging…
These major challenges facing green and smart cities were at the heart of our event dedicated to artificial intelligence solutions.
✨ Organised last week as part of the EUonAir, European University Alliance Consortium, co-funded by the European Union, this event builds on the student hackathon held last year.
During the day, citizens, entrepreneurs, local authority representatives and economic stakeholders were able to:
🔹 Discover the four winning solutions from the hackathon, imagined by committed students
🔹 Challenge these solutions, share user feedback and suggest areas for improvement
🔹 Exchange with professionals and experts in digital technologies, urban planning and local authorities on the opportunities offered by AI applied to smart and sustainable territories
🤝 An event co-organised with TUBA (Lyon Urban Data).
Congratulations to the students for the quality of the solutions presented, and thank you to all participants for the richness of the discussions. 👏
