A big personal THANK YOU to my amazing comedy hero Adam Sandler for coming to and present his newest Netflix production SPACEMAN at the Berlinale. Before you ask, YES, I saw Littly Nicky many times.
We all know, that since a while gifted Adam not only have us of the most brilliant comedies of our times, but was also very convincing as a character actor (just to mentioned Uncut Gems). Surely it’s a fact, the most brilliant comedy actors and also brilliant in dramas.
The director Johan Rencks obviously enjoyed Berlin nightlife, as he mentioned at stage.
Adam plays the Czech Jakub Procházka fantastic - as well as always wonderful Carey Mulligan his wife Lenka. Another a highlight is legendary Rosselini and the voice of Hanus Paul Dano – with references to Kafka 😉
What is great, that the film is not only based on a Czech book (Spaceman of Bohemia is a science fiction novel written by Jaroslav Kalfař in 2017), but was also shoot in Prague supported by our Czech friends (CZ film fund) and the music is done by Max Richter. The narrative is told from the point of view of Jakub Procházka, the first independent Czech Republic cosmonaut.
But I don’t want to “spoil” anything – from 1st of March you all can enjoy it on Netflix. In this context Im just very happy, that the packed Berlinale Palast was able to enjoying this cinematic work on a big screen, where it belongs.
To end with a wish – dear Adam, please continue making those marvelous character studies and well as your genius comedies (which you also produce), as right now we all need to laugh a lot in the dark times we life in.
And please keep coming back to Berlinale with your films. As you know, Berlin loves you as well
