On erev Yom Hashoah we finished the Masa Le Polin.
We came back with many questions, thoughts and are trying to process what we learnt and saw. We would like to share the speech of the hanhagha on our last Mifkad at Mila 18.

Last week, just before the ceasefire between Israel and Iran, Trump said how he can destroy entire peoples and civilizations over night.
When we hear words like these, our hearts should beat faster.
Here, on this Masa, we did not just learn history. We witnessed what happens when words turn into ideology, and ideology turns into destruction.
As members of Hashomer Hatzair, we have a Tafkid, we have a duty.
Our duty is to know the difference between what is just and what is evil.
The Shoah taught us that when people are targeted not for what they do, but for who they are, their religion, their identity, their very existence — this is not war.
This is a crime against humanity.
Human beings justify wars in many ways, for power, for security, even in the name of justice.
But the moment a war becomes about erasing a people, a culture, a “civilization,” it loses all legitimacy.
It becomes the very thing we swore “Never Again” to.
Our Tafkid is to be the ones who recognize that line, and refuse to cross it.
We can fight systems, we can fight regimes, but we can never declare war on a human identity.
As you go back home, I hope you carry with you not only memories, but clarity.
Clarity, that peace is not only the absence of war, but the presence of justice.

It is with deep sadness that Hashomer Hatzair World Movement mourns the passing of Ariel Hurwitz (1932–2026), a lifelong leader, educator, and pillar of our movement. From his youth in North America to his 73 years at Kibbutz Gal On, Ariel embodied our values through a lifetime of shlichut (mission) across the globe, including his vital leadership in Johannesburg, Brooklyn, and New York.
A brilliant historian who chronicled our history in his book 'Against the Stream', Ariel’s dedication to Zionist education and the kibbutz ideal was unwavering. We honor his profound legacy of activism, his academic contributions to Holocaust research, and his generous spirit. His memory will forever remain a source of inspiration for our movement.

The World Movement of Hashomer Hatzair is deeply saddned and shocked by the sudden passing, of our valuable partner and friend, Alain Jonis.

Alain was a devoted member of the Parents comittee of Ken Brussels. He carried his role with integrity, responsibility and an unwavering commitment to Hashomer Hatzair. Each time we met on Zoom we were impressed by his knowledge and dedication along side his warmth and genuine care for people and the movement. His passing leaves a void in our hearts.

On behalf of the hanhagah and the World Movement, we extend our deepest condolences to the Jonis family, to his wife Katrin, their children and embrace and stand in solidarity with the entire Belgian Hashomer Hatzair community.

We hold the family and the community close in our thoughts during this painful time.
May his memory be a blessing.
