The 2026 BELMA Awards shortlist is out!

The BELMA jury has been very busy and was almost overwhelmed by the exceptional quality of this year’s entries. We received 75 applications by publishers in 23 European countries. The jury carefully reviewed and discussed each entry individually.

We are deeply shocked by the Russian attack that destroyed the automated logistics and distribution centre of our Ukrainian member, Ranok Publishing House (Видавництво "Ранок"), in Kharkiv.

The fire destroyed eight million books, including school textbooks and children’s books. We condemn this brutal attack in the strongest possible terms.

This was not simply an attack on a warehouse or a publishing company. It was an attack on education, Ukrainian culture and the right of children and young people to learn, read and build their country’s future.

Our thoughts are with Viktor Kruglov and the entire Ranok team. We stand in solidarity with them, with Ukraine’s publishing community and with all those who continue their vital work under unimaginably difficult conditions. Their courage, resilience and determination command our deepest respect.

EEPG stands firmly with Ranok and with Ukraine.

This week, the BELMA jury is meeting in Berlin assessing the applications for the BELMA awards. Which titles will make it to the shortlist? Today, the jury enjoyed a coffee break on the roof of the Geography Department, Humboldt University.

Across Europe, curriculum reform, emerging technologies, and evolving expectations of schools are reshaping educational publishing. Under the theme “Curriculum in Transition: Policy, Teachers and Sustainable Learning,” representatives from 13 publishing houses across Europe are currently meeting in Bucharest.

Hosted by Editura Art Klett Romania, the EEPG network meeting features presentations and discussions on educational innovation in Romania, curriculum reform, educational research, and AI.

Once again, it has been a record year for . We have already surpassed the number of entries for 2025 and are very proud that 36 publishers from 23 countries across Europe have participated.

For the jury, the hard work starts now — but also the pleasure of discovering so many interesting and innovative titles. This year’s entries once again show the remarkable diversity of educational publishing in Europe: print, hybrid and digital products, with or without AI components, all reflecting new ideas about teaching and learning.

The shortlist will be published on 5 August, and the prize-giving ceremony for the winners will be held at the Frankfurter Buchmesse on 7 October.

There are just over five weeks remaining until the application deadline for the BELMA awards. There is still ample time to submit your educational products, whether digital, hybrid or print-based by May 27th.

We welcome submissions for all age groups and across all subject areas. Each entry will be carefully evaluated by our distinguished jury of eight academics and practitioners, who apply the well-established BELMA criteria to ensure a fair and thorough assessment.
