OceanCollege relocates the participating students` school life for six months on a traditional sailing ship. During this period the students live on the ship and are taught according to the itinerary in the academic core subjects. With this concept of teaching locally it will be possible in various ways to apply theoretical knowledge directly and to experience it. A community on board on the high seas requires discipline, dedication and teamwork of all participants. These properties are particularly challenged and encouraged every day on a traditional sailing ship for weeks. In the course of time the young people get to know all positions and movements on board and can specifically apply for positions on board during the handover of the ship. Furthermore, during the sailing trip a career guidance and -orientation programme is offered for the teenagers. This is to facilitate the students their choice of profession after the schooling. The goal is to analyse and develop individual talents and to discover their full potential and career inclinations. This identity and career choice process can be sustainably realized on a ship as an action space, which provides numerous possibilities for feedback and reflection. An integral part of OceanCollege is also the integration of practitioners and experts who carry out specific projects with young people. This may include craftsmen, entrepreneurs, professors and lecturers, who share their specific expertise in thematically appropriate modules with the students. Based on the coffee project listed below it would provide, for example, to have an expert on board for a week who works out a marketing and sales strategy with the young people. During the stays in the countries in Central America projects with partners are realized locally that were previously co-developed by the students. The main goal of the project is the experience of real project management, sensitive and sustainable economies and consumption as well as the implementation of long-term aid projects with local partners. An example for such a project is the coffee harvest, with the aim of then transporting the coffee on the ship back to Europe and selling it there. Die Jugendlichen leben in diesem Zeitraum auf dem Schiff und werden entsprechend der Reiseroute in den schulischen Kernfächern unterrichtet.Mit diesem Konzept des Unterrichts vor Ort wird es vielfach möglich, theoretisches Wissen direkt anwenden und erfahren zu können. Auf dem Schiff sowie innerhalb der Projektarbeit wird die englische Sprache gesprochen und verwendet. Eine Bordgemeinschaft auf hoher See verlangt von allen Teilnehmern Disziplin, Einsatz und Teamfähigkeit. Diese Eigenschaften werden besonders auf einem Traditionssegelschiff über Wochen tagtäglich gefordert und gefördert. Die Jugendlichen lernen mit der Zeit alle Positionen und Handgriffe an Bord kennen und können sich bei der Schiffsübergabe gezielt für Positionen an Bord bewerben. Außerdem wird während der Segelreise eine Berufsorientierung und –vorbereitung für die Jugendlichen angeboten. Dies soll den Schülern die Berufswahl im Anschluss an die Schullaufbahn erleichtern. Das Ziel besteht in der Analyse und Entwicklung individueller Talente und im Entdecken persönlicher Potentiale und Neigungen. Dieser Identitäts- und Berufsfindungsprozess kann im Erfahrungsraum Schiff mit zahlreichen Möglichkeiten für Feedback und Reflektion nachhaltig realisiert werden. Ein fester Bestandteil von OceanCollege ist außerdem die Integration von Praktikern und Experten, die mit den Jugendlichen konkrete Projekte durchführen. Dazu können Handwerker, Unternehmer oder Professoren und Dozenten gehören, die ihr spezifisches Fachwissen in thematisch passenden Modulen an die Schüler weitergeben. Beim geplanten Handelsprojekt lassen sich Themen wie Projektmanagement, Logistik, Marketing, Vertrieb und Branding sehr realitätsnah vermitteln. Während der Landaufenthalte in Mittelamerika werden Projekte mit Kooperationspartnern vor Ort realisiert, die zuvor von den Jugendlichen mitentwickelt wurden. Oberste Ziele bei der Projektarbeit ist die Erfahrung realen Projektmanagements, sensibles und nachhaltiges Wirtschaften und Konsumieren sowie das Umsetzen langfristiger Hilfsprojekte mit Partnern vor Ort.
