Today we celebrate all the incredible women around the world who have made a difference in their communities and families. At Sankofa Kita, we especially want to take a moment to thank all the amazing women who work with us. Your contributions and hard work do not go unnoticed, and we are so grateful for each and every one of you.
As we reflect on the theme of this year's International Women's Day - "Choose to Challenge" - we are reminded of the struggles that African women in Berlin have faced and continue to face. Despite facing numerous challenges, these women have persevered and made significant contributions to society. From fighting for their rights and equality to building strong communities, African women in Berlin have been a source of inspiration and empowerment.
At Sankofa Kita, we believe in celebrating and acknowledging the achievements of these amazing women. We appreciate the work that they do and the impact they have on the lives of those around them. We believe that by lifting up and supporting these women, we can create a brighter future for all.
So today, and every day, let us choose to challenge the systems and structures that hold women back, and let us choose to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women everywhere. To all the women at Sankofa Kita and beyond, thank you for all that you do. Your strength and resilience inspire us, and we appreciate you deeply.

Black History Month Should be every month!🙏🏿
Berlin is a diverse and vibrant city, but not all children are able to fully embrace their identity and culture in a safe and supportive environment. This is especially true for kids with an African background, who may face challenges such as cultural marginalization, discrimination, and racism. In order to address these issues, it is important to create safe spaces specifically for these children, where they can learn, grow, and celebrate their cultural heritage.
One such safe space is Sankofa Kita, which is dedicated to providing a supportive environment for kids with an African background. The name "Sankofa" is a West African word that means "to retrieve has been left behind". We strive to create a space where children can learn about their cultural heritage and feel proud of their identity, while also providing a safe and nurturing environment for them to grow and develop as Children with AfricanBackgrounds in Europe
At Sankofa, children are taught about the rich cultural history and traditions of Africa, and are encouraged to embrace their heritage with pride. In addition to these cultural activities we offer, the Kita also provides a high-quality education, with a focus on language development, social-emotional learning, and critical thinking skills.
Having safe spaces like Sankofa is important for children with African backgrounds in Berlin, as it helps to address the lack of representation and cultural marginalization that they may face in other parts of their lives. It provides a place where they can feel accepted and valued for who they are, and where they can learn and grow in a supportive environment. This is especially important for kids who may not have access to cultural resources or role models within their own families or communities.
In conclusion, creating black safe spaces like Sankofa in Berlin is essential for promoting cultural pride, building community, and supporting the healthy development of children with African backgrounds.
