As our 10 Years of SUSTM & MISM stories continue, meet Michael Kerkhoff, whose ESCP network has stayed with him well beyond graduation.

A conversation with an ESCP alumnus at a career fair in Berlin turned into a lasting connection-and three and a half years later, that same alumnus hired Michael for the role he’s in today.

But some connections became even more personal: Michael met his now-wife in class at ESCP in 2017, and today they’re married with a little boy. 🫶🏼

His advice to current students? Embrace the moments that take you outside your comfort zone and invest in the people around you. Those connections might stay with you much longer than you expect.

Ten years on, Michael’s story is a reminder that sometimes the biggest impact comes from the people you meet along the way. ✨

A familiar space, with a rather new purpose. 📚

Our library has moved into one of the most distinctive spaces on the Berlin campus - the main hall, formerly known as the Forum.

With its two-storey layout and iconic architecture, the new library now offers space for up to 80 students, private study desks across the balconies, a curated book collection and a permanently staffed help desk.

And the old library? Now two new lecture halls. We do like to keep a good space busy.

On 21 September, we officially opened the doors and now it’s over to our students to make it their own 🫶🏼

From ESCP Berlin to Hong Kong 🌍✈️

As our 10 Years of SUSTM & MISM stories continue, meet Jeanne Lemasle, SUSTM alumna and Sustainability Project Manager at Fnac Darty Asia.

For Jeanne, studying in such an international cohort didn’t just build her confidence working in English-it changed how she thought about what was possible for her career. Her first role after graduation took her to Turkey, Italy and Portugal, and today she works in Hong Kong on Chinese supply chains.

And while her career has travelled far from Berlin, one part of ESCP has stayed particularly close: the friendships and connections she made along the way. 💜

From building and selling an AI company to investing in and supporting other founders, Maximilian von Düring’s career has continued to evolve since his time at ESCP 🚀

As we continue celebrating 10 years of SUSTM & MISM, Maximilian reflects on a journey he could never have mapped out at graduation - and on the international ESCP network that has continued to build connections, trust and opportunities throughout his career.

And perhaps his most important ESCP connection? Meeting his now-wife, Mélissa, in 2017. 💜

10 years of SustM & MISM, told by the people who lived it. 💙

For alumnus Lyle Jarvel, some of the most lasting lessons came from putting theory into practice-from working directly with clients during the CCP to building relationships with professors that continue well beyond graduation.

His advice to today’s students is refreshingly simple: “Apply 100% of yourself. There are no shortcuts.”

A decade on, we’re looking back at the experiences, people and lessons that continue to make an impact. ✨

What happens when you take the classroom out of Berlin and into the Brandenburg countryside? 🌿

This week, our Year 2 MSc in International Sustainability Management students swapped campus life for Schloss Trebnitz for their annual Study Retreat.

From sustainability leadership and biomimicry to sustainable business models and workplace activism, students spent the week exploring big questions in small, mentored groups- with plenty of space to reflect, exchange ideas and reconnect as a community.

And because not all learning happens around a table: long walks, conversations under the trees and evenings around the campfire were very much part of the programme🔥

Our 10 Years of SUSTM & MISM stories continue 🎉💜

Meet Magali Maurice, SUSTM alumna and Head of Recycling Activities for Paper, Plastics & Glass at the French Federation of Recyclers (FEDERREC).

Magali’s path to sustainability started somewhere unexpected: an ESCP student jazz band🎷

While completing her Bachelor at ESCP Berlin, she joined Studio 13, where several of her fellow musicians were SUSTM students. Through them, she discovered the programme-and realised that sustainability was the purpose she had been looking for in her studies.

Today, she works representing the interests of the recycling industry in France and the EU, in a role she didn’t even know existed when she began her journey.

Her advice to current students? Stay curious and open-minded, learn from the different perspectives around you, and make the most of ESCP’s international community. 🌍

Sometimes finding your direction starts with the people you meet along the way. 🫶🏼

Our 10 Years of SUSTM & MISM stories continue 🎉💜

Meet Sanjana Bharambe, our MISM alumna, whose experience at ESCP showed her that some of the most valuable connections are built far beyond the classroom.

“I expected the education to be valuable, but I didn’t fully appreciate how important the community would become.”

Her very first job came through a fellow ESCP alumnus who referred her for the role, mentored her and even helped her prepare for the interview. Years later, that network continues to be part of her professional journey - through career transitions, alumni meetups, shared advice and new opportunities.

For her, the lasting value of business school isn’t only what you learn, but the community that continues to grow with you. 🫶🏼🌍

🔍 Why do some innovations spread from the top down, while others begin in smaller communities before reaching the mainstream?

This question is at the heart of research by Professor Christian Pescher, presented during his inaugural lecture in Berlin, marking his appointment as a Professor at ESCP.

Drawing on more than 200 innovations across two centuries, his research challenges conventional assumptions about how innovations diffuse through society. While functional innovations often spread from more affluent consumers to the wider population, symbolic innovations can follow a very different path - merging within smaller communities before eventually entering the mainstream 💡

Professor Pescher's journey has taken him from Germany to Chile, and from academia to industry and back again. Today, his work brings these perspectives together to explore questions at the intersection of innovation, consumer behaviour and marketing.

His inaugural lecture also offered the an opportunity to look beyond disciplinary boundaries and discover the questions shaping the work of a colleague.

Congratulations, Prof. Christian, and welcome to this new chapter at ESCP! ✨
