From today until June 8, 2021: Fischer & el Sani @ Haus am Waldsee - online solo exhibition!
Heute ist die digitale Einzelausstellung mit Filmen des Künstlerduos Fischer & el Sani gestartet. Nina Fischer und Maroan el Sani arbeiten seit 1993 in Film- und Fotoprojekten zusammen, die sich vorrangig mit urbanen Räumen und dem kollektiven Gedächtnis beschäftigen. Ab heute könnt Ihr Ihre Werke im wöchentlichen Wechsel auf unserer Webseite entdecken.
Den Auftakt macht „Appropriation takes you on a weird ride”. Der 20-minütige Film untersucht den merkwürdigen deutschen Enthusiasmus für Native Americans in Bezug auf heutigen Rassismus und dessen tiefreichende koloniale Wurzeln. Diese Faszination, insbesondere mit dem Blick auf die Konstruktion einer deutschen Identität hat eine eher beängstigende als eindrucksvolle Chronologie.

10 years after the nuclear accident in Japan at the Daiichi Fukushima power plant, Fischer & el Sani are recalling the catastrophe and its terrible consequences.
We are sharing the links to 3 of our films, that we realised from 2011-2014 in the aftermath of the nuclear disaster.

Auch wenn in Berlin definitiv kein Schnee mehr liegt:
Diese Woche zeigen wir Euch zusammen mit Videoart at Midnight „Snow Division“. Der Film von Nina Fischer und Maroan el Sani dokumentiert die Erstellung von Großskulpturen, die jeden Winter im japanischen Sapporo aus Schnee gefertigt werden. Das Künstlerduo hat im Februar 2010 festgehalten, wie die japanische Armee den frischen Schnee ins Stadtzentrum transportiert und dort zu Skulpturen verarbeitet, die nur wenige Tage oder Wochen bestehen.

‚Appropriation takes you on a weird ride‘ investigates the strange German enthusiasm for Native Americans in relation to contemporary racism and its deep colonial roots. This fascination, especially with regard to the construction of a german identity, has a rather frightening than impressive
chronology: it begins with the first-century Germanic Cherusci chieftan Arminius and stretches to the adventure novels of Karl May and the Buffalo Bill's Wild West Shows in the 1800s, through the ethnographic exhibitions (Völkerschauen) in zoos and circuses and founding of “Indian clubs" at the
turn of the twentieth century, onward to the appropriation of Indigenous identities by N**i ideologists, up until the present day, when new rightwing groups have developed an unsettling identification with the Indigenous Peoples of the America.
