Introducing SMASH #9 - module #4
body/material
Maria F. Scaroni
Oct 30 – Nov 10, 2017

Inviting participants to look and treat the body as material, addressing its organic functions and spiritual potential as well as its cultural implications. The nature of the approach is eclectic and sources from ‘chi’ cultivation techniques such as Qi Gong and Pranayama (breathing techniques), spine and limbs patterns explorations (body connectivity, proprioceptive systems), hands-on work (experimental body-alchemy teaching from Sara Shelton Mann) and elements of improvisation to transmute through different states.

Introducing SMASH #9 - module #3
the journey of theory – dancing the problem
Diego Agulló
Oct 09 – Oct 27, 2017

"How to practice theory? In which way is art a form of theory?
Our starting point will be to stop understanding theory only as a production of discourse and rather to consider it as an oscillatory movement or, in other words, a journey of traveling abroad and returning.
To articulate problems implies to throw out difficulties; bodies become puzzles thrown into the distance, a difficulty transforms the scenario into a problematic dance floor. Problems turn the situation into a turbulent event, into a domain of dangerous influences."

Introducing SMASH #9 - module #2
Jared Gradinger
“human gardening”
Sep 18 – Sep 29, 2017

"We are not necessarily talking about including ‘nature’ in our work, rather acknowledging the fact that it is already there, as a reality, an intelligence and as everything we can perceive with our five senses. So how can we work with it rather than it for us?" (…) We will do our best to work with nature as the provider of your means and matter and action. We will attempt to treat our projects and practices and life as we would a garden."

Introducing SMASH #9 module #1
Anna Nowicka
"dreamstates"

Aug 28 – Sep 15, 2017
The creative work I propose will specifically focus on the practice of dreaming aware, and on becoming awake to the ongoing dreaming process that is accompanying our conscious existence, allowing this continuous flow of sensations, feelings and images to in-form the body, influence its presence and become the source of actions.

Introducing SMASH #9 introductory week
Aug 21 – Aug 25, 2017
Alessio Castellacci "the synesthetic body"

A synesthetic experience takes place every time the information gathered through one organ of perception triggers a sensorial impression by automatic free-association in another perceptive organ. On a larger scale, this dynamic reminds us of the elusive nature of creativity and how this is deeply rooted in the sensing body. From this point of view, the phenomenon of synesthesia will serve as a conceptual catalyst to reveal the non-linear dynamics underlying any creation process.
