Kokikai Aikido is a Japanese martial art founded by Sensei Shuji Maruyama, a direct student of Morihei Ueshiba, the original founder of Aikido. We had testing on Wednesday night at Aikido Kokikai Berlin, including our first ever black belt tests. Congratulations to:

This is a historic milestone for our dojo, and I am proud of the years of hard work these students have dedicated to their martial arts practice. Thanks also to our special guests from France, Kim Comer and June Andronick, who visited for the occasion. It was June's first visit to the dojo, as well, and we're looking forward to many more years of collaboration as we build the Aikido community in Europe.

Tonight we welcomed Robert Choy sensei to the dojo for his historic third visit! Robert was on his way to an event elsewhere in Europe and stopped over in Berlin to teach an amazing class. He reminded me of the generous spirit I see often in Kokikai. Thanks, Robert, and come back soon!

Today was a proud day for Aikido Kokikai Berlin! I was honored to host my teacher Gary Snyder sensei to teach a special seminar in honor of our dojo's 7th anniversary.
Gary sensei has been an inspiration for me for 20 years, and it was unreal to see him in action in my own dojo with my own students. So glad to be part of this global community!

I'm honored to present Aikido Kokikai Berlin's first homegrown black belt: Samantha Grenell-Zaidman! Sam has been on the mat with me since day one, seven years ago. We're all immensely proud of her and already training for nidan! Yiiii!
