Our story

IOM’s Global Migration Data Analysis Centre (GMDAC), jointly with the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), developed the Migration Data Portal. The Portal aims to serve as a unique access point to timely and comprehensive migration statistics, which are now scattered across many different organizations and agencies.

The Portal was officially announced on 12 July 2016 at the 2nd Berlin Roundtable on Refugees and Migration in Berlin, where the German Foreign Minister at the time met with heads of international organizations working in the area of migration.

The overall purpose of the Portal is to draw together key data and tools on migration globally, organized by topic, with a strong use of visualizations and interactive elements throughout. Especially in critical times, such as those faced today, it is essential to ensure that responses to migration are based on sound facts and accurate analysis.
