Hashomer Hatzair ist progressiver, demokratischer und emanzipatorisch säkular-jüdischer Jugendverband "Schmutz" in Germany?!

Schmutz is a nickname of Hashomer Hatzair, an international, secular-Jewish, socialist youth-movement. The Ken (Nest; Activity center) in Belin was shut down during the 2nd World War and re-opened in 2012. Our activities
We have "Pe'ulot" (activity sessions) once in two weeks on Sunday afternoon. Our activities currently take place in Berlin. We have three groups:
- Amitay group: ages 8-11
- Adamit group: ages 12-14
- Hadracha: Ken Team 15+

Throughout the year we also have cooperation with partner organisations (e.g. fellow youth movements) and voluntary activities. We celebrate the Jewish holidays in a secular way and and go on trips and seminars of the Hashomer Hatzair World Movement. Every Peula is made from some activities and a discussion, that stand along our value system. Our leading values in Ken Berlin are critical thinking, socialism and giving means to social capabilities. We also deal with issues like Israel, zionism and Judaism- while many other Jewish youth movements tend to idealize these matters, it is very important for us open up such topics for discussions, examination and understanding of different point of views while developing an independent opinion. Other examples for issues we deal with are gender and society, personal and social responsibility and pluralism. Language
while in other "Kenim" the activity is in the local language, we lead our activities in the language that works for our participants. Between German, English and Hebrew, we always find a common ground where everyone could understand, feel comfortable and express themselves.

October 7, 2023 changed our lives and our communities.
On October 6, we invite our community to come together — to share, listen, support one another, or simply be together.
A space to reflect on how it felt then, how it feels now, and what has changed — individually and collectively. There is no expectation to speak, and no one way to experience this day.

6. Oktober | Gemeinsam, einen Tag vor dem 7. Oktober

Der 7. Oktober 2023 hat unser Leben und unsere Gemeinschaften verändert.
Am 6. Oktober laden wir unsere Community ein, zusammenzukommen – um zu teilen, zuzuhören, einander zu unterstützen oder einfach gemeinsam da zu sein.
Ein Raum, um darüber zu sprechen, wie es sich damals angefühlt hat, wie es sich heute anfühlt und was sich verändert hat – persönlich und als Gemeinschaft. Es gibt keine Erwartung, etwas sagen zu müssen, und keine bestimmte Art, diesen Tag zu erleben.

Wir freuen uns sehr, Eva Hückmann im zweiten Semester von Kolenu willkommen zu heißen.
Eva wird unseren wöchentlichen Lesekreis leiten, in dem wir gemeinsam gesellschaftliche und politische Themen erkunden, Texte lesen, diskutieren und dabei Deutsch sprechen und lernen.
Nach unserem ersten Pilotsemester entwickeln wir den Lesekreis weiter – mit mehr Raum für Diskussion, Interaktion und aktive Beteiligung der Teilnehmenden.

Meet Eva – our new Lesekreisleiterin!
We’re happy to welcome Eva Hückmann to the second semester of Kolenu.
Eva will lead our weekly reading group, where we explore social and political topics, read and discuss texts, and practice speaking German together.
Following our first pilot semester, we’re developing the Lesekreis further, with more space for discussion, interaction and active participation.

What did it mean to be gay in a Kibbutz during the formative decades of Israeli society? How did Hashomer Hatzair’s educational ideals shape conversations around sexuality, identity, and community?
In this lecture, historian Dotan Brom explores the little-known q***r history of Hashomer Hatzair through the remarkable life of Giora Manor (1926–2005), one of Israel’s leading dance critics and a lifelong member of Kibbutz Mishmar HaEmek.

👉 Mit Kolenu | קולנו – Unsere Stimme läuft ein Bildungs- und Austauschprojekt für erwachsene Mitglieder der israelischen und jüdischen Community in Berlin.

👉 Kolenu richtet sich an Menschen, die ihre Deutschkenntnisse vertiefen, gesellschaftliche und politische Themen diskutieren und sich in einem jüdischen Rahmen austauschen möchten.

👉 Kolenu is aimed at people who would like to deepen their German skills, discuss social and political topics, and exchange ideas within a Jewish framework.

A whole week full of learning and fun led to our exciting closing ceremony last night. We said goodbye to our amazing R.ken Lilith, and lit up the night with the incredible "Ktovet Esh"!

After our Kabbalat Shabbat and disco party, we surprised the Chanichim.ot at midnight with a special game in the forest. Nothing like a spooky night to get them to work together and overcome their fears!

Along with plenty of fun activities, today we took advantage of the summer weather and jumped into the lake. We swam, splashed around, and played cards on the grass.

Day 1 kicked off with amazing energy! After arrivals and lunch, we took a trip back in time to our movement's founding days. We wrapped up the afternoon working together to pitch our tents for the coming days.
