When your mind is full, how can you tap into your resources?
We spend so much time thinking about what concerns us. Thinking is, of course, an important part of how we understand ourselves and our lives. But it is not the whole of our experience.
Here is something you can try:
Think of something that has been occupying your mind lately. Something you keep thinking about, trying to understand, or trying to solve.
For a moment, don’t look for an answer. Instead, bring your attention to your body. What happens in you when you think about it?
Notice where in your body you shrink or contract, and begin to expand. You can use your breath, movement, stretching, or simply your attention.
Give yourself time. Let the expansion become an experience, rather than something you are trying to achieve. Notice what happens as you take up more space.
Now let it all be present: your body, your emotions, and also your concerns. Stay with the whole experience for a while.
In the Pantarei Approach, we are interested in what happens when we include more of ourselves in the way we meet our lives. Our thoughts are part of our experience, but they are not the whole of it.
You don’t need to reach a conclusion. Become curious about what else becomes available when you listen with more of yourself.
And if you try it, we’d love to hear what you discover.
