On the 30th of August, we hosted a summer festival at Atelier Garden. During the day, we organized workshops where we learned how to crochet, redesigned our own T-shirts using blue batik and linoprinting techniques, turned old T-shirts into yarn and knitted them into new accessories, and, in collaboration with Stadtbienen, learned more about honeybees before taking part in a workshop to create beeswax wraps. Throughout the day, we also learned how to make patches and repair our clothes.

During Summer Fest, we welcomed participants from different backgrounds, ages, and interests, all united by a shared curiosity and interest in reducing textile waste.

A big thank you to Atelier Garden for hosting the workshops, Stadtbienen for the collaboration, and our dear and lovely workshop leaders kama/კამა Vega Geo Knits Slow Kipiprints .berlin for being with us, helping us create a special and inspiring day.

Act. Create. Transform. is taking a break, but we hope to be back with more interesting opportunities to promote slow fashion and reduce textile waste.

How do you envision yourself through the blur?

Over two days, as part of Beyond the Frame, we collaborated with Q***r Analog Darkroom to explore pinhole photography and the camera obscura through a hands-on analogue process.

On the first day, we started by transforming everyday up-cycled materials: cans, metal cookies and cardboard boxes; into analogue cameras, learning how such a simple device can capture an image through light, time and a tiny opening.

After we built the cameras together, the second day was about experimenting with making portraits, exposure and developing the photographs in the darkroom.

The workshop was an open invitation to slow down and approach photography differently. Instead of looking for sharpness, control or immediate results, we worked with blur, unpredictability and imperfection. Through this process, participants could explore different ways of seeing and representing themselves and each other, while learning about analogue photography through experimentation and shared practice.

We are really grateful to Q***r Analog Darkroom for sharing their knowledge and practice with us, and to all the participants who joined, experimented and created together.

How can local herbs, shared cooking and a little experimentation bring sustainability into everyday life?

During the “From Waste to Taste: Herbal Waffle Time” workshop, organised as part of our Eco-Quest programme and in collaboration with Soil Social Club, participants explored the edible plants and herbs growing in the garden at Atelier Gardens and experimented with how they could be used in everyday cooking.

Working in small groups, participants prepared vegan waffles. Each group created its own combination of herbs and plants, experimenting with how different ingredients could influence flavour, aroma and texture, while also learning more about their properties and benefits for our bodies.

The workshop brought together gardening, cooking and experimentation, encouraging participants to discover local plants in a practical and creative way. After preparing the waffles, we came together for a shared tasting, combining them with different toppings also created using ingredients from the garden.

Rather than following one fixed recipe, the activity became a space for curiosity, exchange, and discovering how much variety can come from ingredients growing just around us.
A big thank you to Soil Social Club for sharing their knowledge of the garden, plants and flavours with us, and to everyone who joined, experimented, cooked and tasted together.

How do we experience ourselves through photography and through the spaces around us?

As part of "Beyond the Frame", we are starting our first workshop block: "Self and Space Photography".

Across three workshops in September and October, we will explore self-representation, emotions, urban space, portraiture and personal storytelling through photography and collage.

Outdoor Portraits - 11 September 2026
Experimenting with portrait framing, body positioning, facial expressions and modelling, as well as the interaction between ourselves and the outer space around us.

We will explore different ways of creating portraits outdoors and look at how framing, posture, expression and surroundings influence how a person appears in an image.

Photowalk - 22 September 2026
Urban exploration through Berlin’s streets while acknowledging our own emotions.

During the photowalk, we will move through the city, observe the spaces around us and photograph what catches our attention, while also noticing how different places, situations and surroundings make us feel.

Self Collage - 7 October 2026
Telling your own story using your phone’s camera roll, screenshots, newspapers, flyers and pictures of objects you carry with you.

We will bring together different fragments of our everyday visual lives and use them to create a personal collage, exploring how images, memories, objects and small details can become part of the way we represent ourselves.

No previous photography experience is needed.
Registration is required via Google Form: https://forms.gle/E7DYLVDLKt8KtvKU7 Places are limited!
Participation is free of charge.

These workshops are organised as part of "Beyond the Frame", a youth-led project exploring visual literacy, photography, digital culture, and how images shape the way we understand ourselves and the world around us.

A little glimpse into the magic of the Kaleidoscope Project!

This summer, we spent 10 days in Wernsdorf, using mixed media in nature as a tool for self-discovery: we took many pictures, edited and filmed Oscar-worthy videos, and crafted with our hands, from portraits of each other to collages made using what we could find in the forest. But honestly, we also just had so much fun and learned from each other. We built a beautiful international community by simply sharing our daily lives together.

We cooked a massive amount of food, cooled off in the lake, had the best dance parties, and ended our nights hanging out around the campfire.

Thank you to everyone who made this youth exchange so special and unforgettable. The Kaleidoscope was all about experiential learning, making beautiful connections, and leaving with a deeper sense of self-awareness.

What can we learn about our environment when we slow down, walk, and look more closely at the plants growing around us?

On August 8th, we travelled to Chorin for our EcoQuest event “Hiking and Foraging: Trails for Change.”

During the hike, we explored responsible foraging, identified different wild plants, and discussed how they have traditionally been used, their different characteristics, and their place within the surrounding ecosystem. We also discussed the consequences of overharvesting and how climate change is affecting local plants, forests and landscapes. We explored how digital tools such as Flora Incognita and Pl@ntNet can help us continue discovering and identifying local plants. We finished the day with a shared picnic, conversations, and time to connect with the surrounding nature.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, shared their knowledge and questions, and helped make the day such an enjoyable collective experience. A special thank you to Aaron Lang for leading the activity and sharing his knowledge and valuable insights about foraging and the local environment

This event is part of the Youth Participation Project “EcoQuest - Youth for a Sustainable Future”, funded by the European Union. EcoQuest supports young people in developing a deeper understanding of environmental sustainability and actively engaging with the EU Youth Goal Sustainable Green Europe.

How do you envision yourself through the blur?

In this two-day workshop as part of Beyond the Frame and in collaboration with Q***r Analog Darkroom, we’ll explore this question through the wonderfully imperfect world of pinhole photography. Using simple homemade cameras, we’ll create portraits that are soft, hazy, slow in its creation, and a little unpredictable.

Rather than trying to make everything sharp and perfectly legible, we’ll embrace the unsteadiness of this DIY device. Pinhole photography gives us a chance to push back against the pressure to be perfectly clear, perfectly readable, or easily categorised. Instead, we can play with ambiguity, softness, and the freedom to be seen differently - unfixed, complex, and whole.

Over two days, you’ll build your own camera obscura out of recycled materials, make portraits with fellow participants, and experiment with what it feels like to create blurred outlines of each other.

Where? Atelier Gardens, Oberlandstraße 26–35, 12099 Berlin, near Haus 9
When? Saturday 29 & Sunday 30 August
