“Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” 🥴

This is probably one of the most cringeworthy interview questions of all time. Come on. You can’t see far enough into the future to know what’s for breakfast tomorrow morning! 🤷‍♀️

So, why is this question so commonly asked? Especially during the pandemic! Who would have thought in 2018-19 that the whole world will be working from home in 2020-21?

Also yes, it is pretty frustrating. 😏

But hold on! Here's the good news. There’s a quick and easy way to sidestep the question and still talk about your long-term goals. 💪

The primary goal of asking this question is to understand if your goals align with the company's goals and to understand if you are going to stay in the job. 😌

While answering the question, try to give the hiring managers an impression that you're here to stay and express your enthusiasm about growing in the organisation. Also show that your personal career goals and the company's long term goals are aligning. 🙌

Remain vague but also be realistic! Interviewers don't expect to know exactly where you are going to be in the next 5 years. What they do expect is you taking the position seriously, stick around for a while and perform well! ✅

If you need help designing your career, drop a message! 🤝

Hey there! Happy Monday! 🤓

Does it look like a good day to show your presence on LinkedIn? Have you thought of commenting on a post you found interesting but didn't do it? Well, think again! These tips will help you do just that! 💯

🙌 Firstly, read the full post. It's about respecting the efforts put in by the author. It's only fair to read the whole post and then comment with honesty.

🙌 Make sure the comment is adding value to the post, is thoughtful and engaging. Or ask questions if you feel the need to.

🙌 To keep the conversation going, comment on other commenters. One of the best ways to do this is to ask engaging questions.

🙌 While posting your comment, mention the author. This will get them notified about your comment and most likely you will also get their attention!

Ugghh! Are you in a fix? 😣

Thinking about declining that job offer but don't know the best way to do it? 🤷‍♀️

The foremost thing to do is to be polite, even though you may want to flip the table upside down after seeing the offer! 😜

What you say or write when you decline depends on your reasons for rejecting it. We'll consider two possibilities, when you don't resonate with the company or when the job is not paying you enough. 💭

When you don't resonate with the company, a short email saying “thanks for the opportunity” with a simple reference to the job not being a great fit at this point in your career is sufficient. It is generally better to not express a specific reason or criticise the organisation. ✅

However, if the job and the organisation is not a problem, you can consider negotiating the offered salary. But if all your efforts to negotiate a higher salary doesn't work in tour favour, send an email expressing your gratitude and reaffirming your excitement about the position, stating that you must decline due to the level of the salary. At times, an employer will revert with a better offer if they see that you are genuinely interested. 😊

In your rush to respond when someone shares a job on LinkedIn, are you hurting your chances of getting a response? 🤔

We often see interested candidates commenting on the post. However, commenting "I am interested" is probably not the best approach. 🙅‍♀️

It might work, but it may not. ❗❗

People are busy and this message doesn’t help the person stand out nor does it explain why they are interested in the role or company. 🤷‍♀️

Moreover, your network and your current company can see the comment and you wouldn't want your employer to see that. ⚠️

So, how do you express your interest for the job while increasing your chances of getting noticed by the job poster and not your current employer? Swipe to know how! ✅

If you're wondering how to go about your job search, dive right in! Try and plan strategically. 💯

Firstly, avoid spray and pray method which is basically applying for any role you come across and thinking you're the right fit or the role is a right fit for you. ✅

Ask yourself these questions:

❓ What kind of environment are you looking for? Would that be a start up or a larger organisation?

❓ Do you also resonate with the company values and the job role?

❓ Are you looking for a remote or do you want to go to an office?

Next step would be to shortlist 5-10 companies and also checkout their competitors. That's it! Focus on these points and go on with your job search! ✅

Most people don't view interviews as a two-way street. As a recruiter, I have always believed that interviewing is a two-way street. It is equally important to ensure that the company and opportunity are the right fit for the candidate as well as the company. 🙌

I always encourage candidates and my clients to ask questions throughout the interview process, so when the time to make a decision comes, they will have as many data points as possible to make an informed decision. 💯

Are you in the middle of a job search right now? 🤔 Job search can be tough to deal with emotionally, especially in the middle of a pandemic. However, there are opportunities and all we need is to be patient and try to gain control over our thoughts. 😇

Here are a few things that you can do to make the process a little bit easy emotionally:

❤️ Take some time to process your emotions. Don't try to fight it, just try to feel whatever you are feeling. Find the best way to navigate through these emotions through activities like journaling, meditation, recording yourself letting it all out on voice notes- whatever works for you, really!

❤️ If it's too overwhelming, seek support. You can talk to a therapist, look for a job search support group in your area or hire a career coach that can provide you the emotional support you need.

❤️ Job search can be emotionally and mentally exhausting! Engage in activities to rejuvenate yourself- exercise, listen to your favourite bands or watch a movie!

❤️ Take a step back, zoom out a little and look at how things are at the moment. Think about other possibilities, about where you need to improve. And please take breaks without feeling guilty. You deserve it!

If you need someone to talk to through these emotions, book a FREE discovery call thorough the link in bio! 🤝

Writing a cold email can be really hard, isn't it? 😓

So what are cold emails anyway? Cold emails are introductory emails that you send to someone you do not know to create a connection for business or networking opportunities. 📧

Below are some tips to keep in mind to write an effective cold email:

✅ Sending cold emails to prospective employers can provide you with great connections and possible opportunities.

✅ When you send cold emails to the intended representatives of companies you are interested in working for, it shows your initiative and willingness to put forth the extra effort to achieve your career goals.

✅ When sending a cold email, make sure you know the recipient's job title, what they do in their position and a little bit about their background. If you have something in common, highlight that connection.

✅ There's more pressure on a cold email than an ordinary email because it will be scrutinised (just like a cover letter). Make sure it's flawless. Carefully proofread for typos or sloppy writing, because you can't unsend that email.

If you are looking forward to approach an organisation, but don't know how- get in touch with me! 🤝

It’s the moment every candidate dreads, isn't it? No matter how much you prepare, there’s always that one question you aren’t ready for. 😖

💯 Acknowledge that the question was asked and that you’re thinking about it. Something as simple as, “that’s a great question. Let me think about that,” will suffice as you take some time to work through your first thoughts on how to approach the question.

💯 If you are genuinely perplexed by the question and do not think buying time, defining terms, or asking the interviewer to rephrase the question will help, say you are not sure. It's completely okay!

💯 Very few jobs require workers to have all of the answers on the spot. Perhaps the most significant thing you could do in this situation is to read up a little and come up with a strong answer after the interview. You can then include that answer as part of your follow-up communication.

When it comes to the format of a resume, what do employers prefer? 🤔

Well, that depends on the type of job you are seeking. A creative can resume can help you get noticed by a prospective employer. 💪

What is a creative resume anyway?

✏️ A creative resume is a resume that doesn't follow the traditional resume templates. It's also called a nontraditional resume.
✏️ These resumes are typically creative, catchy, and designed to showcase your skills and qualifications in a way that plain words on paper can't.
✏️ Creative resumes can be infographic or be in a video format (not more than 90 seconds).
✏️ Online resumes are helpful for applicants who want to post films, sound clips, photographs, or other pieces of work related to their industry.

A study by The Creative Group reports that 70% of employers preferred traditional resumes (PDF/Word) even for creative jobs. Only 20% were interested in infographics, and fewer preferred a social or online profile (4%) or a video resume (2%). 📝

You can also add nontraditional elements to a traditional resume. For example, you might want to list the URL of your LinkedIn profile on your resume. If you have an online portfolio or a personal website, add that to your resume as well. 💯

If you're confused about the type of resume you should choose, we can discuss! Drop a message! 😇

When it comes to landing a job, it's all about your interviewing skills. Qualifications will often land the interview, but executing a successful meeting requires more than just possessing the right skills for the job.

Whether your interview skills are rusty, it’s not something you enjoy, or for reasons, you’re unaware of why your interviews are not landing you the job- interview coaching can help. 🙌

The average length of an interview is ~40 minutes, but some studies have shown that recruiters and hiring managers make their decision within the first two minutes of the interview.

What is said in the interview is a part of the equation, but your presentation, body language, and other factors can often mean the difference between landing the job of your dreams and missing out. 💯

The 60 minutes mock interview session is designed to help you answer the common behavioural interview questions with the right techniques that will help build your confidence. 🤝
