Last Friday, our students from the M.Sc. Sustainability and Smart Building Technology (SSBT) programme presented the projects they developed in the PropTech course with Prof. Juan Ocampo.
⠀
And there was quite a lot to see 👀
⠀
From a smart parking system that detects when a spot is occupied 🚗 to a CCTV and street-lighting concept that counts cars and measures their speed.
⠀
One group tackled a particularly important challenge: fire safety. Their idea uses sensors to identify where a fire is and then guides people in the opposite direction. The system could also help emergency services locate people who may be trapped inside 🔥
⠀
Other groups explored humidity monitoring and even a “building power bank” — a small-scale model designed to provide backup power during an outage 💧🔋
⠀
What makes these projects interesting is that they all started with a practical question: How can technology help us make buildings smarter, safer and more resilient?
⠀
The students didn’t just talk about their ideas — they built prototypes, tested concepts and presented their solutions to the group.
⠀
And yes, every presentation came with a well-deserved thumbs up 👍
⠀
A good Friday in PropTech 🚀
