From the founders:
“Kilmé is a talk series dedicated to celebrating the work of Palestinian artists, intellectuals, and academics. It serves as a platform for these remarkable voices to present their work and discuss topics that matter most to them, freely and openly. The word “Kilmé” means “word” in Arabic, and we believe that their words and voices deserve to be heard.

We are excited to host this talk series at Lettrétage, a venue located in the heart of Berlin Mitte, known for its innovative approaches to presenting literature.

Starting in September 2024, we will engage with our Palestinian guests once a month in what promises to be an enriching experience for both our audience and ourselves. Our commitment is to showcase the diversity and creativity of Palestinian voices, contributing to the rich cultural landscape of Berlin—a city that is home to the largest Palestinian community in Europe.”

Tyme Khleifi &

Sami Khatib is a founding member of the Beirut Institute for Critical Analysis and Research (BICAR) and specializes on Critical Theory with interdisciplinary research interests in Philosophy, Aesthetic Theory, Visual Arts, Media Theory, and Cultural Studies. He joined the OIB in October 2023. Line-up // Mapping Sounds in Exile
DAY-2 Friday, October 18, 8 pm, Kunsthaus ACUD

Sonic Belongings
Where do we belong and how does our cultural and geographical environment shape our listening habits? How do we relate to music and which sonic environments and practices become our own, producing feelings of connection and home? Between deep listening and folk music practices, field recordings and spoken words, the (hybrid) DJ-Sets of this night capture the essence of migratory experiences at the crossroads of cultures and places. DJ-culture becomes through its archeological sonic discoveries a sort of archival practice, bringing a broader music culture to a wider public.

Performances:
20:00 Rami Abi Rafi (Lebanon) Hybrid DJ Set
21:00 Ludmila Pogodina (Belarus) DJ Set

🗓️ 18.10.2024
📍 Kunsthaus ACUD

🗓️ 17.10.2024

During a Listening Session musicians will present up to three songs of personal or political significance, offering reflections on why these pieces function as vital soundtracks to the past and as foundational anchors for the future. How does music and sound, the act of listening, create comfort, belonging, address political topics or resistance? Listening to our environments, soundscapes and traditions–as well as contemporary contexts–becomes a political act. From radical listening to deep listening practices, participating artists will showcase a wide variety of sonic interests, influences and approaches.

In the second part of the program, we invite you to the rap performance by Zeyo Mann and DJ Set by Falyakon.
