HINTERHOFGESÄNGE 2026 🎶

The former furniture factory that houses C*SPACE has long been a place for musical creatives as well. One of C*SPACE’s close musician neighbors is Berlin-based musician Andreas Albrecht, who works across vocals, piano, drums, songwriting, and production.

For the second time, C*SPACE hosted an open-air concert as part of the Weißenseer Kultursommer. On September 2, Merle, Toni Kater, and Andreas Albrecht came together in our courtyard for an evening celebrating contemporary German singer-songwriter music.

With its unique courtyard atmosphere, the evening brought music, neighbors, and friends together under the open sky.

HINTERHOFGESÄNGE 2026 🎶

Die ehemalige Möbelfabrik, in der heute C*SPACE zuhause ist, war schon immer ein Ort für musikalische Kreative. Einer der musikalischen Nachbarn von C*SPACE ist der Berliner Musiker Andreas Albrecht, der in den Bereichen Gesang, Klavier, Schlagzeug, Songwriting und Produktion arbeitet.

Zum zweiten Mal veranstaltete C*SPACE im Rahmen des Weißenseer Kultursommers ein Open-Air-Konzert. Am 2. September kamen Merle, Toni Kater und Andreas Albrecht in unserem Innenhof zusammen, um einen Abend der zeitgenössischen deutschen Singer-Songwriter-Musik zu gestalten.

In der besonderen Atmosphäre des Innenhofs brachte der Abend Musik, Nachbar:innen und Freund:innen unter freiem Himmel zusammen.

✨Und bei C*SPACE geht es musikalisch weiter: Am 21. September, Montag feiern Andreas Albrecht und Manfred Maurenbrecher im C*SPACE Loft mit Liedern und Geschichten den Geburtstag von Leonard Cohen. Ihr seid herzlich eingeladen.❣️

Im C*SPACE und in der Hausgemeinschaft der ehemaligen Möbelfabrik Bruno Springer ist schon länger viel in Bewegung.

Seit einigen Monaten arbeiten wir daran, Haus und Gelände in der Langhansstraße 85/86 zu erwerben und langfristig für Kultur, Handwerk, zukunftsfähige Wirtschaft und soziale Innovationen zu sichern.

Wir freuen uns sehr, dass Bürgermeisterin Cordelia Koch und Stadtrat Bechtler bei unserem Initiierungstreffen der „Genossenschaft Guter Geist“ dabei waren.

There has been a lot in motion for some time now at C*SPACE and within the house community of the former Bruno Springer furniture factory.

For the past few months, we have been working towards securing the building and grounds at Langhansstraße 85/86a for the long term use for culture, craftsmanship, future-oriented business and social innovation.

We were very happy to have Mayor Cordelia Koch and Councillor Bechtler join our founding gathering for the “Guter Geist” Cooperative.

• Johan Chang 張玉漢, Director of Treasure Hill Artist Village, an inspiring place for fellowships and artist residencies. Thanks for the tour, Johan, it made me want to stay! :-)

• Guanyin 觀音菩薩, Bodhisattva of compassion and central figure of Treasure Hill’s historic temple, watching over a place where spiritual life, community and artistic practice have grown together.

• Wo Gong 和工, an independent library and pottery studio in the mountains, founded by A San 阿三 from Hong Kong, who took over his pottery teacher’s studio. Can nature offer healing and refuge, a place to make a home away from home?

• Willie 趙偉仁, Space & Development Manager of Yimei Bookstore 郭怡美書店 and The 1 Bookstore 一間書店. His take: Space-making means building the operating system for creativity and relationships to unfold.

• Tun Tun 囤屯, a new bookstore, dialogue space and bar. Shu-Lei 舒磊, lawyer and book lover, connecting legal literacy, social justice, family history and social space-making. And, last but not least: a bar!

Connecting Across the Ocean - Taipei Flânerie

C*SPACE was one of the two hubs selected for the first European Creative Hubs Network Pan-European P2P Creators Exchange!

Katja, C*SPACE co-founder, just spent an inspiring time “strolling” through conversations and places, meeting peers, creating relationships, and following what wants to emerge across contexts and cultures.

Flânerie : Part I

* Nowhere 飛地 Bookstore, 飛地nowhere our main hosts, founder Annie Jieping Zhang 張潔平 and manager Tara. We started with a creative deep dive: What are our stories of migration and our relationships to the places that have shaped us? A Zine workshop helped us explore them together. Thanks also to Kiki and Co. Studio Kiki for sharing her zine expertise!

* Tang Wei 唐薇, German Studies Scholar, Translator, Executive Editor of Flaneur Magazine (2019), content creation professional, currently in the semiconductor industry. What might connect us beyond chips, between Taiwan and Germany?

* Goethe-Institut Taipei 歌德學院（台北）德國文化中心 Goethe-Institut Taipei : Institutional libraries or independent places: how do we design “3rd spaces” that bring people together with meaning?

* Wu Dar-Kuen 吳達坤, Curating Director, Taiwan Contemporary Culture Lab. Taiwan Creative Expo / 臺灣文博會, curated around “Bit Zero / 第零位元” : what happens in the moment before creation?; and WE Are Becoming / 我們正成為.

* Jennifer Lee 李慧珍, Mekong Cultural Hub, based at C-LAB. Different region, shared conviction: “Placing Arts at the Heart of Every Vital Society.”

The motto “WE Are Becoming / 我們正成為” stayed with us: identity not as something fixed, but constantly changing and interconnected.

Could European diversity also be understood as an identity that is constantly becoming?

A special evening of tea and stories is coming to C*Space. Tonight’s Nepali tea tasting continues that tradition, bringing a taste of the Himalayas into the warmth of C*Space.
Our guest speaker for the evening is Satish Man Pati Nireka Adventures , a mountain guide from the Kathmandu Valley with over 30 years of experience in the Himalayas. He has summited Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Manaslu, Kilimanjaro, and Aconcagua, and runs his own company, Nireka Adventures. Satish will share his fascinating story along with photographs from his expeditions.

Why Tea at C*SPACE? Our Tea-Manifesto

Some of you might have wondered why tea has become such an important part of C*SPACE. At the eve of the Summer Tea Festival, this is a moment to re-introduce the founders, Katja and Jan, whose connection to tea began while living in China.

For Katja, it began during her studies in Chengdu in 1994, where she fell in love with the city’s teahouse culture. She spent countless hours in outdoor teahouses — reading, studying, talking, contemplating. Endless refills of hot water, roasted pumpkin seeds, and an atmosphere of both liveliness and calm.

For Jan, tea became part of everyday life while working with his friends’ photo gallery OFOTO in Shanghai and during business trips to Fujian, where work would pause after lunch. Tea wasn’t a break from work — it was part of the work.

Years later in Berlin during the pandemic, these experiences inspired the Pop-Up Teahouse Berlin concept, helping activate C*SPACE when everything else had come to a standstill, as much a creative strategy as a stoic attitude of calm over tea.

Tea and teahouse-making became a curatorial practice. For us, tea is much more than a drink: it is a method of bringing people together beyond boundaries: a space for serendipity as much as planned content.

Over the last five years this has evolved into an open, non-dogmatic space, inviting others to create their own teahouses. It applies the principle of “co” (as in co-working) to a community of tea lovers and entrepreneurs building a livelihood around tea.

This year we wanted to go deeper into the tea as a plant and the process of production. In May, we joined a tea retreat at Casa del The, hosted by Katrin Lange — whose 40-year journey in tea culture entrepreneurship, from Länggass-Tee in Bern to Casa del Té at Monte Verità, is a true inspiration.

🍃 Tea is not just what we serve at C*SPACE. It is part of how we create space. We look forward to the 3rd Berlin Tea Summer Fest - fueled by community spirit and the wish to create an urban tea living room that makes a difference, fostering togetherness rather than polarization in society.
