ICN Berlin

To close the semester, we hosted a special 𝘞𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳 & 𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘮𝘢𝘴 𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘊𝘢𝘧é 𝘓𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘢 (a warm multilingual session where students reflected on their time at ICN Business School. The students took part in seasonal language games, exchanged winter traditions from their home countries, and reflected on their academic and personal experiences at ICN, especially those completing their exchange semester.

We then explored the 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 together with a fun Photo Challenge: finding typical winter treats, traditional decorations, and capturing the spirit of Berlin’s festive season. For many, it was their first time trying Glühwein, Punsch or discovering German gingerbread (aka “𝘓𝘦𝘣𝘬𝘶𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘯”).

Each student also received a 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐝 to send home and a small traditional holiday treat.

Tomorrow it's a public holiday in Germany 🥳: We celebrate the German national day 🇩🇪

This holiday commemorates the unification of East Germany (German Democratic Republic) and West Germany (Federal Republic of Germany) .

The Berlin Wall, which had divided East and West Berlin for nearly three decades, fell on November 9, 1989. Prior to reunification, people in East Germany were unable to vote in free elections or – apart from a few exceptions – travel to the West. Because many families had relatives and friends in the other part of Germany, this was felt to be a severe limitation in the divided country.

The treaty for German reunification came into force almost a year later, on September 29, 1990. In it, October 3rd was declared the Day of German Unity and thus a national holiday.

The German Unity Day is celebrated with various events and festivities across the country, including official ceremonies, parades, concerts, and cultural activities.

The year is slowly coming to an end for our second year Brand and Marketing Management students: Classes and exams are over and another chapter has started: Students complete their year with an integrated internship to gain valuable professional experience.

During their studies at ICN Berlin, students familiarized themselves with strategic and creative tasks. They learned how to help companies position themselves successfully on the market or how to give existing brands a new lease of life.

Although it is not absolutely necessary to speak German in Berlin, it is still very beneficial to acquire some basics to get along in the city.

Throughout the year, ICN Berlin students can benefit from optional German lessons once per week to improve their language skills and acquire cultural knowledge with our German teacher

There are many reasons why Berlin is the perfect place to study:
Its strong international community, the cultural scene and of course the huge employability sector. Berlin has something to offer for everyone!

We need it in our everyday lives 💵💸💰💳

But have you ever thought about what the future of money could look like? Will we be able to pay with crypto currencies such as Bitcoin? And what do we understand by the digital Euro ?
To prepare their currencies for the digital era, central banks around the world are currently considering the design of central bank digital currencies. The European Central Bank launched an investigation phase into the design, challenges and opportunities of a digital Euro in October 2021.
Many thanks to Julien N. and Alexander M. from Deutsche Bundesbank for sharing their expertise and insights into the digital Euro project and the world of crypto currencies. It was a very insightful discussion.

The stellar rise of crypto tokens such as Bitcoin, Ethereum & Co. and the subsequent price drop has wiped out billions of dollars of market capitalization and attracted broad attention in the international business press. Moreover, the bankruptcy of crypto exchange FTX and potential fraudulent behaviour including money laundering is currently being investigated by the US authorities. These examples show that crypto tokens are speculative assets and should not be confused with digital currencies: To prepare their currencies for the digital era, central banks around the world are currently considering the design of central bank digital currencies (CBDC). The European Central Bank (ECB) is one of the most active central banks and has launched a project about potential design, challenges and opportunities of a digital Euro in October 2021. This autumn it will be decided whether the project will be continued.
